The first stable release of the portable personal assistant kit: download, unzip, open the folder in your approved desktop agent and follow the guided setup. Name your assistant, keep local memory, manage tasks on the HTML board and use the included planning, contacts, briefing and custom-skill workflows.

What changed since beta.3

• Updated HTML/PDF guide and README, with clear latest-release download and safe-upgrade instructions.
• Basic Microsoft 365 connection guidance: check each connection in the app you use and ask IT about assignment or consent blocks. Access in another app does not automatically transfer.
• Codex troubleshooting: try Ask for approval (manual review) if Approve for me fails, while keeping the sandbox enabled. This is not a verified repair for Windows command-start errors; persistent errors need app/IT support. No Full Access or sandbox-account/configuration workaround is recommended.
• Scoped, anonymised user-reported acceptance evidence, with remaining app and connector checks stated honestly.
• Upgrade regression coverage; release and skill metadata aligned to v1.0.0. Core helper and board behaviour are unchanged.

Existing users

Save progress, download the ZIP and extract into a separate new folder. Ask your current assistant to copy your personal files and verify your profile, notes, tasks and custom skills before switching. Keep the original folder intact and use only one writer. Follow the update guide. Do not extract over an existing setup.

Evidence and scope

25 automated tests pass, alongside browser, rendered-PDF and public-package checks. A rehearsal against the final v1.0 ZIP preserved fictional personal data and left the previous folder unchanged.

Reported app tests cover Codex/Windows Outlook email summary and local save/read-back, plus Claude Code setup, profile customisation and honest handling of blocked Microsoft 365 access. These are scoped user reports, not universal app certification. The Windows sandbox issue remains unresolved. Calendar, live Teams, attachments and several broader app/user scenarios remain unverified; see test evidence.

The stable core uses your approved app's existing permissions. Outlook, Calendar and Teams availability depends on that app and your organisation's connections. The briefing workflow is read-only. Apache 2.0 licensing is unchanged; no independent security-certification claim is made.

Download vesta-companion.zip from Assets below, unzip it into a new folder, and open START-HERE.html. Allow around 10-15 minutes for guided setup once your approved agent app is ready; this is an estimate, and connecting work services may take longer. No API keys or separate agent runtime are needed by the kit.

What improved

• A ready-to-use Obsidian-compatible memory vault with starter folders, a home note, simple conventions and templates for notes, contacts, meetings, decisions and journals. Setup adds missing starter files without replacing existing notes or settings.
• Clearer download instructions throughout the README, HTML guide and 12-page PDF. All general download links now point to the Releases page under the Vesta organisation.
• A working online guide and interactive fictional task-board demo. The hosted demo does not offer to load or save personal files.
• Optional, adjustable backup reminders and an optional Claude permission-settings example, with guidance on how to apply it without replacing existing settings.
• Windows and Linux CI, a visible security-reporting policy and a narrowly scoped public documentation build.

Getting started or updating

New users: download the ZIP, extract it fully and follow START-HERE.html. The PDF is also attached separately below.

Existing users: extract this version alongside your existing folder. Keep the original folder and personal data, then ask your assistant to help follow the update guidance in the quick-start guide. Never extract a new release over a populated assistant folder. The new vault conventions do not require you to rewrite existing notes.

What has been checked

All 24 automated tests pass on Windows and Linux. Local browser checks cover task-board editing, export/import handling and the hosted demo. The PDF was rendered and visually checked, and the ZIP is restricted to an explicit public-file manifest. Checksums are provided below.

This remains a beta: signed-in checks across supported desktop apps, live Microsoft 365 connectors and a representative nontechnical pilot are still pending. Outlook, Calendar and Teams briefings depend on the approved connectors and permissions available in your chosen app. Instruction files are not a substitute for the app's actual permission controls. These checks are not an independent security audit.

This is a guide-only update; core behaviour and skills are unchanged. Existing users can simply use the new guide. Do not unzip over a populated working folder.

Validation: 17 Python tests and browser checks passed. The 12-page PDF passed layout and link-annotation checks; changed pages were visually reviewed and the remaining rendered pages match the previous version.

This remains a beta preview. Live signed-in cross-app and Microsoft 365 pilot testing is still pending; see docs/TESTING.md. No private or internal communications are bundled.

Beta scope

Local helper/release tests passed (17 tests), along with browser behaviour and responsive-layout checks. All twelve PDF pages were rendered and reviewed. Browser OS file permissions were mocked in automated tests.

Signed-in cross-app setup, live Microsoft 365 and representative nontechnical pilot testing remain outstanding. This preview is ready for that pilot; it is not a claim of universal app compatibility or independent security certification. See test evidence.

Your chosen app supplies its own model, authentication and connectors. The kit adds no model gateway, background service, telemetry, API keys or third-party skill code. Apache 2.0 remains unchanged.

Keep your work private

Use a private local or approved restricted synced folder. Share this clean release, never your populated personal folder. Extract later versions alongside your current installation and preserve personal/; do not unzip updates over existing work.
