@Vorta Vorta released this 10 Oct 09:25

Loadbar 1.3.1

Author: Vorta · License: MIT · Platform: Windows 11 x64

CPU temperature availability details now say “CPU temperature is not available” instead
of referring to an ASUS interface. This also applies to the initial reading before collection.
Native error codes and metric statuses are preserved.

This patch changes wording only. Temperature-provider coverage, sampling, settings and
rendering behavior are unchanged. Additional CPU-temperature integrations remain future work.

Upgrade

Exit through Exit Loadbar in Settings or the tray/bar menu, replace Loadbar.exe, and
launch it. Existing settings are preserved.

Validation status

All four CTest suites pass in Debug, Release and ASan. Formatting, the full clang-tidy scan
and MSVC analysis pass. Release imports/security flags and the single-executable ZIP were
verified. Details are in testing
and packaging.

The owner requested this wording-only patch release with the previously disclosed validation
gaps remaining: controlled performance/soak, the full interactive Windows matrix, hardware
accuracy and clean-machine standalone execution. Publication does not establish that those
gates passed. No new performance measurement is claimed for this patch.

  • Always show readout, enabled by default for new and migrated settings, places two-line
numeric summaries beside every graphic. All logical-processor tiles and device meters remain.
  • CPU total/P/E averages, RAM percentage/capacity, GPU 3D/memory/decode, drive active/read/write,
and network download/upload use compact, color-matched Geist Mono text.
  • Vertical readouts follow the edge's reading direction, with upright icons and temperatures.
Constrained edges reflow through the existing readable-minimum placement policy.
  • Disable the setting to restore the original graphics layout and saved hover behavior.
Tooltips remain independently controlled. Changing readouts does not restart collection.
  • Tighter spacing and aligned Geist Mono typography keep the readouts compact. README
animations compare both modes with temperatures and square CPU tiles at the same scale.

Upgrade

Exit through Exit Loadbar or the tray/bar menu, replace Loadbar.exe, and launch it.
Settings migrate automatically; Always show readout starts enabled. Uncheck it in
Settings and select Apply to keep the graphics-only presentation.

Validation status

All four CTest suites pass in Debug, Release, RelWithDebInfo and ASan. Formatting, clang-tidy
and MSVC analysis pass. Release imports and security flags were inspected; the ZIP contains
only the tested executable. See testing
and packaging.

An independent performance review found no actionable issue in caches, collection, handoff
or resource lifetime. A ten-minute observation of the final executable at the existing 250 ms
cadence, with readouts off, measured 12.51 ms/s CPU, 67.09 MiB median private bytes and
72.88 MiB median working set. CPU/private memory exceeded the provisional targets in that
configuration; resource counts were stable over the interval. Details and limits are in
performance.

The owner approved the implementation and requested publication after the remaining validation
gaps were disclosed. Controlled 1-Hz horizontal/vertical performance, GPU/DWM attribution,
the one-hour soak, the full interactive Windows matrix, hardware accuracy and clean-machine
standalone execution remain pending. Publication does not establish that these gates passed.

Loadbar 1.2.0

@Vorta Vorta released this 09 Oct 18:37

Loadbar 1.2.0

Author: Vorta · License: MIT · Platform: Windows 11 x64

This version adds component temperatures, bundled Geist Mono, and a control that stops
temperature collection entirely when it is not wanted.

Changes

  • Component temperatures. CPU temperature on compatible ASUS firmware, selected-GPU
temperature through Windows graphics APIs or installed NVIDIA/AMD/Intel drivers, and
physical-drive device/composite temperature through Windows storage APIs. Values appear
below icons after a valid observation, upright on every edge. CPU access outside the
compatible ASUS interface and RAM temperature remain outside the standalone provider coverage.
  • Show temperatures. Enabled by default for new and existing installations. Unchecking
it and selecting Apply hides temperature values and effects and stops new sensor requests.
Other metrics continue normally. Last-valid temperatures retain their original age when
    collection resumes.
  • Thermal styling. Icons retain their own colors through 60°C, blend toward the temperature
text color up to 90°C, then gain a static glow reaching full intensity at 95°C. High contrast
retains system colors. Geist Mono and its license are embedded in the executable.
  • Reduced unnecessary work. Confirmed missing vendor capabilities no longer repeatedly
initialize driver libraries at the normal failure cadence. Hover transitions reuse
temperature text layouts. Hidden or disabled drives release completed temperature buffers.

Upgrade

Exit through Exit Loadbar or the tray/bar menu, replace Loadbar.exe, and launch it.
Settings migrate automatically. No installer, service, elevation or bundled vendor DLL is required.

Validation status

Debug, Release, RelWithDebInfo and ASan passed all four CTest suites each. Formatting,
clang-tidy and MSVC analysis passed. The release ZIP contains only the tested executable;
imports are Windows components, with optional temperature libraries loaded from installed
drivers. Exact build, regression and independent-review results are in
testing.
After correcting a coalesced temperature-toggle reset, two independent consecutive
adversarial/performance review passes reported no actionable findings.

The owner reported successful manual use and requested publication after the remaining
validation gaps were disclosed. This does not establish completion of the formal release gates.
Controlled 1-Hz performance measurements, the one-hour soak, the full interactive Windows
matrix and clean-machine standalone execution remain pending.

packaging.

Loadbar 1.1.5

@Vorta Vorta released this 09 Oct 12:45

Loadbar 1.1.5

Author: Vorta · License: MIT · Platform: Windows 11 x64

This update makes popup tooltips more compact and gives them an independent setting.

Changes

  • Compact quantities. RAM/GPU memory uses MB or GB; disk/network rates and session peaks
use MB/s or GB/s, with one decimal place. Units follow the Windows-style binary convention,
identified in the tooltip. Tiny positive values show <0.1 MB or <0.1 MB/s; zero stays zero.
Redundant raw-byte capacity lines are removed. Inline and Settings readings keep their formats.
  • Independent tooltip control. The new Show tooltips checkbox sits below Show info
    on hover
. Use either, both or neither: hover info controls numbers on the bar, while the new
setting controls its popup. The tray tooltip remains available. Changes apply without restarting collection.
  • Compatible settings migration. Existing installations inherit the tooltip choice from
their old hover setting; new installations enable both. The choices then persist independently.

Downloads and upgrade

  • Loadbar.exe: Windows x64 executable.
  • Loadbar-1.1.5-windows-x64.zip: the same executable, compressed.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt: checksums for both downloads.

Exit the running version through Exit Loadbar or its tray/bar menu, replace Loadbar.exe,
and launch the new executable. Existing settings migrate automatically. No installer is required.

Validation status

Debug, Release, RelWithDebInfo and ASan builds passed all four CTest suites each. Formatting,
clang-tidy and MSVC analysis checks completed, with findings fixed and affected checks rerun.
Tests cover compact formatting, settings migration, independent inline/popup modes, hidden
native tooltip activation, checkbox backgrounds and keyboard/layout behavior. The owner
reports that the changes look good and requested publication.

Release imports contain only Windows components, and the ZIP contains only the tested executable.
The full interactive Shell/fullscreen/multi-monitor matrix, hardware accuracy, controlled
performance measurements, one-hour soak and clean-machine standalone execution remain pending.
Publication does not establish that these gates passed. See
testing,
performance and
packaging for evidence.

@Vorta Vorta released this 09 Oct 11:05

Loadbar 1.1.4

Author: Vorta · License: MIT · Platform: Windows 11 x64

This update improves the Settings window.

Changes

  • Preference checkboxes now match the surrounding window background.
  • Close dismisses Settings and discards unapplied changes while monitoring continues.
  • Exit Loadbar sits on the left and keeps its full label. Apply, Cancel, conditional Retry
and Close stay on the right, wrapping when needed. Keyboard navigation follows their order.

Downloads and upgrade

  • Loadbar.exe: Windows x64 executable.
  • Loadbar-1.1.4-windows-x64.zip: the same executable, compressed.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt: checksums for both downloads.

Exit the running version using Exit Loadbar or its tray/bar menu, replace Loadbar.exe,
and launch the new executable. Existing settings are preserved. No installer is required.

Validation status

Debug, Release, RelWithDebInfo and ASan builds passed all four CTest suites each. Formatting,
clang-tidy and MSVC analysis passed. Hidden native-window tests cover checkbox background
pixels, footer sizing, keyboard order, draft cancellation and Close without application exit.
Independent adversarial and code-level performance reviews found no actionable issues.
The release imports only Windows components, and the ZIP contains only the tested executable.

The performance review did not measure production CPU, RAM or GPU usage. Live Settings
appearance across Windows themes/DPI, the full Shell/fullscreen/multi-monitor matrix,
hardware accuracy, controlled performance measurements, one-hour soak and clean-machine
standalone execution remain pending. Publication does not establish that these gates passed.

Loadbar 1.1.3

Choose a tag to compare

@Vorta Vorta released this 08 Oct 20:44

Loadbar 1.1.3

Author: Vorta · License: MIT · Platform: Windows 11 x64

This update improves vertical layouts and CPU sizing, adds interaction preferences, and
supports shared GPU memory when dedicated-memory readings are unavailable.

Changes

  • GPU memory fallback. Prefer valid dedicated-memory readings, then verified adapter-wide
shared-memory usage. Label the selected scope and retain its last valid observation through
failures. Until either source has been observed, show only 3D and video decode in a 2:1 split.
  • CPU square option. Enable Display CPU usage always as squares to use square P/E
tiles. The grid fits the strip thickness and determines the CPU area's length; remaining
device widgets share the available space. Uniform and unknown CPU classes also fit their
occupied grid, including high-thread-count layouts. Every logical processor retains its tile.
  • Vertical layouts. Meters fill upward with upright icons below. Hover text reads top-down
on Right and bottom-up on Left. E cores sit left of P cores on Right, and right of P cores
on Left. Native tooltips and Settings text stay upright.
  • Interaction preferences. Show info on hover and Open Task Manager on click are
    checked by default. Uncheck either to disable that behavior. Settings migrate automatically;
presentation changes do not restart telemetry collection.

Downloads and upgrade

  • Loadbar.exe: Windows x64 executable.
  • Loadbar-1.1.3-windows-x64.zip: the same executable, compressed.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt: checksums for both downloads.

Exit the running version through its tray/bar menu or Settings, replace Loadbar.exe,
and launch the new executable. Existing settings remain under HKCU\Software\Loadbar.
No installer, service or launch-at-sign-in registration is added.

Validation status

The implementation passed Debug, Release, RelWithDebInfo and ASan builds and all four
CTest suites, formatting, clang-tidy and MSVC analysis. Production-renderer offscreen tests
cover edge switches, square fitting, text direction, high contrast and resource recovery.
Adversarial reviews led to fixes and clean follow-up reviews. The owner reports that the
updated application looks and works correctly in their manual use.

Release imports contain only Windows components, with no VC++ runtime DLL dependency.
The ZIP contains only the tested executable. Code-level performance review found no
additional actionable regression; it is not a measurement of production CPU, RAM or GPU use.

The full interactive Shell/fullscreen/multi-monitor matrix, hardware accuracy and hotplug,
controlled performance measurements, one-hour soak and clean-machine standalone packaging
remain pending. Publication is explicitly requested with those limitations disclosed;
it does not establish that the remaining release gates passed.

performance,
review, and
packaging for evidence.

Loadbar 1.1.1

@Vorta Vorta released this 08 Oct 19:12

Loadbar 1.1.1

Author: Vorta · License: MIT · Platform: Windows 11 x64

This patch fixes CPU thread visibility and spacing, and reduces allocation and rendering costs.

Changes

  • Show every logical processor. A four-core/eight-thread CPU now displays eight separate
tiles with independent utilization colors, retained readings and hover details. Sibling
threads remain adjacent, and details identify their physical core.
  • Remove unused CPU space. CPU width follows its tile grid and bar thickness. RAM and
the other visible device meters share the remaining width equally.
  • Reuse GPU aggregation storage instead of allocating temporary map/set nodes each sample,
while retaining adapter, engine, interval and duplicate-counter validation.
  • Release hidden-provider scratch buffers when GPU or all disks are hidden, preserving
device preferences, last-valid observations and session peaks.
  • Bound glow rendering memory and resolution at large bar sizes while retaining cached
    drawing and resource-loss recovery.
  • Back off failed network reads instead of retrying every sample; selection and recovery
    events reset the retry state.
  • Refresh README visuals to use the current renderer.

Downloads and upgrade

  • Loadbar.exe: Windows x64 executable.
  • Loadbar-1.1.1-windows-x64.zip: the same executable, compressed.

Debug, Release, RelWithDebInfo and ASan passed all four CTest suites. Formatting and MSVC
analysis passed. The full clang-tidy run found one conversion warning in a test assertion;
it was fixed and the affected file passed a rerun. Independent performance-focused and
adversarial reviews were followed by fixes and two consecutive clean independent reviews.
The CPU-spacing follow-up also received two clean independent reviews and final rechecks.

Release imports contain only Windows components, with no VC++ runtime DLL dependency.
The release ZIP contains only the tested executable. Synthetic allocation and rendering
probes support the targeted optimizations; they are not measurements of final process overhead.

Live Shell/fullscreen/multi-monitor behavior, hardware accuracy and hotplug, controlled
performance measurements of this version, one-hour soak, and clean-machine standalone
packaging remain pending. Publication does not establish that these release gates have passed.
See testing,
performance,
review, and
packaging for evidence.

Loadbar 1.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@Vorta Vorta released this 08 Oct 17:52

This update adds control over which device widgets appear and improves the CPU layout
on processors without different core types.

Changes

  • Hide GPU and Network independently in Settings. Remaining widgets expand to fill
the available space. Hidden providers pause while retaining their device preferences,
    last readings and session peaks.
  • Choose which physical drives to show using the new Drives checkboxes below Network.
Apply commits changes; Cancel restores them. Hidden choices survive reconnects and restarts,
while newly discovered drives are shown automatically. The checklist supports keyboard
navigation and scrolling for longer lists.
  • Equally sized square CPU cores for processors without distinct efficiency classes.
Cores sit side by side and wrap when needed. Hybrid P/E-core layouts remain unchanged.
  • Pause hidden drive updates. Visible drives keep their shared counters; hiding all
drives closes both disk queries. Showing a drive again primes those queries and preserves
its session peaks. Device discovery continues while widgets are hidden.

Existing settings migrate automatically, with all device widgets visible by default.
Visibility changes redistribute space in both horizontal and vertical layouts.

Downloads and upgrade

  • Loadbar.exe: Windows x64 executable.
  • Loadbar-1.1.0-windows-x64.zip: the same executable, compressed.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt: checksums for both downloads.

Exit the running version through its tray/bar menu or Settings, replace Loadbar.exe,
and launch the new executable. Settings remain under HKCU\Software\Loadbar.
No installer, service or launch-at-sign-in registration is added.

Validation status

Debug, Release, RelWithDebInfo and ASan builds passed all four CTest suites. Formatting,
clang-tidy and MSVC analysis passed. Two independent consecutive adversarial reviews were
clean after fixes. Release imports contain only Windows components, with no VC++ runtime
DLL dependency. The packaged ZIP contains only the tested executable.

Live Shell/fullscreen/multi-monitor behavior, physical-hardware accuracy and hotplug,
sustained performance/soak, and clean-machine standalone packaging remain pending.
Automated checks and source reviews do not establish those results. See
testing,
review, and
packaging for evidence.

Choose a tag to compare

@Vorta Vorta released this 08 Oct 16:06

Loadbar 1.0.0

Author: Vorta · License: MIT · Platform: Windows 11 x64

Initial open-source version of Loadbar, a native system-monitoring AppBar for one selected
monitor. It reserves work area, supports all four edges, and provides tray Settings/Exit.

  • Physical-core CPU rectangles with logical-processor details.
  • Physical RAM percentage and used/total GB.
  • Every physical disk's active time, read and write throughput.
  • Selected GPU's 3D, video-decode and supported adapter-memory metrics.
  • Selected interface's upload/download rates.
  • Per-direction session-peak rate scales, last-valid reading continuity, DPI/text scaling,
    high-contrast rendering, and persisted settings.

Files

  • Loadbar.exe: standalone Windows x64 executable.
  • Loadbar-1.0.0-windows-x64.zip: the same executable, compressed; no companion runtime files.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt: checksums for both downloads.
  • Source archives are provided by GitHub from the release tag.

Run the executable, use its notification icon for Settings, and exit through the tray/bar
menu or Settings to release the reservation. Settings are per-user, under
HKCU\Software\Loadbar. No installation or launch-at-sign-in registration is performed.

Validation status

Build/test/analysis and import evidence are recorded in
testing and
packaging.
Interactive Shell/fullscreen/multi-monitor behavior, physical-hardware accuracy, sustained
performance/soak, and clean-machine standalone packaging are not yet release-qualified.
No performance numbers or clean-machine guarantees are claimed. Unsupported counters and
unverified GPU memory scopes remain explicitly unavailable in the application.

The README animation uses synthetic readings in the actual renderer. It is not hardware
validation, a desktop recording or a measurement of application overhead.
