3.0 Problem Defination

1.1 Problem Definition (Objectives)

When we are deep in study or work, breaking focus just to look for a pen or phone can be very disruptive. Our objective is to build a small desk assistant robot that helps users with simple, repetitive desk tasks so their main work is not disturbed. The robot is meant to be used in offices, laboratories, classrooms, and personal study spaces.

1.2 Problem Definition (Objectives + Constraints)

The main objective is to build a desk assistant robot that helps users with small repetitive tasks in offices, laboratories, classrooms, and study spaces. However, the design must stay within some limits. The robot must use an ESP32 development board as its controller and a rechargeable battery for power, so it can run without wires through a full study or lab session on a single charge. It must be small and light enough for a student to carry in a backpack, and it should be safe to touch, with the wiring enclosed and the wheel gears covered. The DC motors must run quietly so they do not disturb others. The body is made from a smart car chassis kit with 3D-printed or laser-cut acrylic for the organizer. The robot must also be low-cost, use easily available components, and be completed within the current semester.

1.3 Problem Definition (Objectives + Functions + Constraints)

The main objective is to build a desk assistant robot that helps users with small repetitive desk tasks in offices, laboratories, classrooms, and study spaces. To achieve this, the robot performs a few key functions. It holds pens, passes small items, and carries a mobile phone using its automated organizer. It moves around the desk using DC motors and carries only light items such as pens, notes, or a phone. Its camera detects the desk edges so the robot does not fall, and it also detects books, laptops, and cups so the robot can avoid them. The user can control the robot with hand gestures through the camera or through a Bluetooth mobile interface. A Bluetooth speaker plays audio alerts for study breaks and tasks, and a 2.8-inch TFT LCD display shows a digital face and status messages.
