CoBlocks v1.0.0
CoBlocks v1.0.0 — Previously LiveScratch
LiveScratch is now CoBlocks! This release brings a refreshed identity, collaboration invite links, live cursors, Firefox support, and major improvements to authentication, notifications, and project recovery.
New features
- Collaboration invite links: Invite others to your CoBlocks projects, including unshared projects. Copy, replace, or revoke links from the project controls.
- Live collaborator cursors: See collaborators’ mouse movements when working in the same sprite’s blocks editor, with positions aligned to the workspace.
- Activity notifications: Get notified when collaborators join, leave, or send messages. Click message notifications to open chat.
- Firefox support: The same extension package now supports Chrome, Brave, Edge, and Firefox.
- Update announcements: See a release preview on Scratch after updating, with links to the latest GitHub release notes.
LiveScratch → CoBlocks
- New CoBlocks name, logo, extension icons, and branding.
- Updated sign-in pages, editor controls, chat, backpack, and profile badges.
- Refreshed popup and project page styling, with light and dark themes.
- Restored the profile badge’s hover rotation.
Authentication and security
- Backend-issued login tokens valid for 30 days.
- One active session per account: Signing in elsewhere logs out the previous session.
- CoBlocks sign-in must match the current Scratch account.
- Invalid credentials are cleared so users can sign in again.
- Fixed several sign-in handoff issues, including startup races, interrupted responses, and repeated callbacks incorrectly reporting an expired login.
- Strengthened backend authentication, project access checks, and input validation.
- Updated dependencies and addressed security issues.
Collaboration and notifications
- Fixed invite handling across Scratch’s project creation redirects.
- Improved online collaborator cards, role colors, and faster hover tooltips.
- Online cards adapt to larger groups by reducing names and avatar sizes before wrapping.
- Added notification ping sounds, truncated previews, and corrected unread badge placement.
- Opening chat clears its unread notifications; messages received while chat is open do not increase the unread count.
- Notification toasts support swipe-right dismissal, entrance and exit animations, and automatic dismissal after 1.6 seconds.
Reliability and interface improvements
- Improved local project recovery and backend storage resilience.
- Improved handling of authentication failures and lost connections.
- Refined error dialogs, spacing, editor buttons, and popup layout.
- Settings, theme controls, and footer links remain accessible during popup errors.
- Consolidated popup styles and simplified extension and backend code.
Installation
- Chrome, Brave, and Edge: Load the extracted extension folder through Load unpacked.
- Firefox 140+: Load
manifest.jsonthrough about:debugging → This Firefox → Load Temporary Add-on. Permanent installation requires a Mozilla-signed package.
