Release list
wasdmod 1.4.0
The Mac app and the Windows setup can now update themselves, and the key layout editor's "game's controls" follow the game's own keyboard settings as you change them.
One-click updates
The apps check GitHub for a new version when they start (at most once a day) and when you click Check for updates. A new version appears as a card at the top with an Update now button.
Update now downloads the release, checks it against the release's SHA256SUMS file, replaces the app and reopens it. Because the download skips your browser, macOS doesn't ask you to approve it under Open Anyway and Windows SmartScreen doesn't stop it. The new app then updates the mod in the game folder and keeps your layouts and settings. If the game is running, it waits and finishes once you close the game. The card shows the two steps separately: "Step 1 of 2: the app is updated", then "Step 2 of 2: the mod in the game is updated".
If the app's folder can't be changed, the new version goes to your Downloads folder and you install it by hand.
Key layout editor
- In the Mac app and the Windows setup, the "game's controls" follow the game's own keyboard settings automatically. Change a key in the game's menu and the editor shows it a second or so later, even while you play. A line at the top of the editor says so.
- Apply to the game's controls is now Apply this layout to the game's controls, and Use the game's keys in this layout is now Set this layout to the game's controls.
- Apply this layout to the game's controls in the checklist, and the new Change them for me button in the warning at the top, write your keys into the game's keyboard settings. The editor asks first, and the game has to be closed. The first write keeps the original settings file as a backup.
- Undo and redo go back up to 50 steps: ⌘Z and ⇧⌘Z on a Mac, Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y on Windows, or the buttons next to Reset.
- The editor asks before it deletes a layout or sets the game's keys.
- Your jump key no longer shows a yellow warning on the "Interact, Melee Attack" row. The game's keyboard settings put interact on the attack key, while on a controller it shares A with jump, so both are right.
In the game
- Recommended has a second bow key: C, next to side button 4. C shoots the way you're facing; side button 4 aims with the mouse.
- Backtick (`) now shows a "wasdmod off" banner while the mod is off, with the key that turns it back on, and a short "wasdmod on" when it comes back.
- Save a layout while the game runs and a "Key layout loaded" banner shows its name at the top for 4 seconds. Before, the whole key list popped up.
- The mod uses less CPU. It reads the mouse position only while something needs it, and checks in less often while the game isn't in front.
- Fixed short freezes on a Mac. The mod asked macOS where the mouse was on the game's own thread, and while the Mac was busy the game waited, sometimes for over a second. That and a few other slow checks now run on the mod's own thread.
- On Macs with CrossOver's high-resolution (Retina) mode, the F9 key list and the typing frame no longer have a white line along one edge.
New icon
Pixel WASD keys on one side of a line and a controller on the other, for the Mac app and the Windows setup.
Downloads
The file names now carry the version: wasdmod-1.4.0.exe for Windows, wasdmod-1.4.0.dmg for the Mac (CrossOver), and wasdmod-1.4.0.zip for Linux, Steam Deck or a manual install. SHA256SUMS holds the checksums the apps check updates against.
Coming from 1.3.1 or older? Those versions open the download in your browser, so install this one by hand. Updates after 1.4.0 take one click.
wasdmod 1.3.1
What's new
- Drag keys around: on the key layout editor's keyboard map and mouse, drag a key onto another to move what it does. If both keys do something, they swap. You can also click one key and then another, or use the arrow keys and Enter. Moves the mod can't do are refused, with the reason.
- No more jumping to the top: in the apps, changing a setting no longer sends the editor back to the top of the page. The view and the control you used stay where they were.
- Clearer settings: every option now says what happens when it's on and when it's off, and every slider says what lower and higher do. Descriptions were checked against what the mod actually does.
- Typing mode and the cursor key only take keyboard keys, since the mod can't see a mouse button for them.

wasdmod 1.3.0
What's new
- New in-game key list (F9): a dark panel with keycaps, the controller button behind each action, and two columns when the list is long.
- Typing mode you can't miss: press T and an amber frame surrounds the game while a banner drops in. Hold a move key while typing and it shakes; press Esc and "Back to playing" appears.
- Overlays stay in the game: the key list and the typing banner hide when you switch to another app.
- Dark redesign of the Windows setup and the key layout editor.
- Editor: Export… next to Reset; hover a key on the keyboard map to see what it does; match the game's own controls in either direction, with a warning when a game key clashes with movement; "Default keys" is now "Official layout".
- Smoother turning: Turn time goes up to 1000 ms (0 is the sharpest).
- Microsoft Store / Xbox app version: the setup now finds
Dungeons-WinGDK-Shipping.exe.

wasdmod 1.2.0
Apps that feel like apps, and fewer restarts.
- Layout changes apply in a running game within a second; no restart needed.
- The game's own controls: the editor reads the game's keyboard settings and can set them for you with Apply to the game's controls (game closed; your old settings are backed up).
- Windows: the setup is redesigned in the Windows 11 style, and the key layout editor opens in its own window.
- Mac: a proper Mac window with a toolbar, light and dark mode, and Check for Updates.
- Your layout in the game always shows up in the editor, marked (installed).
- Menus use the game's keyboard shortcuts; the inventory can still use the controller. The Recommended layout follows.
Windows may say "Windows protected your PC" because the file isn't signed yet: click More info → Run anyway.
wasdmod 1.1.0
wasdmod now includes 16 languages. Pick one with the 🌐 menu in the editor; the in-game key list follows the game's own language.
wasdmod 1.0.1
What's new in 1.0.1
- Mac: fixed the mouse in other games. 1.0.0 set two CrossOver settings for the whole bottle, which could make the mouse fly around in other games there (like CS2). They now apply to Dungeons II only. Open wasdmod and click Update to fix it.
- Record Logs: click it, play until a problem happens, then Stop & Save Logs for one report file to attach to an issue. Nothing you type is recorded.
- Mac: Choose Game Folder for a copy wasdmod doesn't find by itself (a Minecraft Launcher copy, another folder or bottle).
- Key layout editor: keys bound twice get their own red notice; "change these in the game" is yellow; Save buttons are green; headings in a pixel font that matches Minecraft's lettering.
