Shipping and Delivery
Four things to set up, in the order most shops need them:
- Where you ship — which countries checkout will accept
- What you charge — your store-wide rate
- Zones — different rates for different countries
- Pickup points — collection instead of delivery
Admin → Shipping → Shipping Rates → Shipping Destinations
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Domestic only | Your store country only. The default for a new store. |
| Selected countries | A list you pick, from all 249 |
| Everywhere | Every country |
In Selected countries mode you get a searchable list with EU, All and None buttons. The EU button selects the 27 member states. Search filters the list, and All/None act only on what is currently showing — so a filtered "All" does what it looks like it does.
Checkout builds its country dropdown from this and also checks the submitted value, so editing the form in a browser will not get an order through to a country you do not post to.
Billing addresses are deliberately unrestricted: a customer can pay from a country you do not deliver to.
Clearing every country while in Selected mode would leave a checkout nobody could complete, so an empty list falls back to your store country.
Admin → Shipping → Shipping Rates
| Method | How it is worked out |
|---|---|
| Flat rate | One price per order |
| Free shipping | Always zero |
| Free over a threshold | Free above an order value, a flat charge below it |
| Per item | A price for each item, with an optional cap |
| By weight | A base rate for the first kilo, then a price per extra kilo |
Individual products can override this: set a product to ship free, or give it its own charge, on the product edit page.
Admin → Shipping → Shipping Zones
A zone is a set of countries with its own rate. Use one where the price differs from your normal rate — usually "Europe", "North America", or a single country you ship to cheaply.
A zone offers the same five methods as your store-wide rate, so "free over ₹5,000 in the UK, flat ₹750 across Europe, and your normal rate everywhere else" is three settings, not a special case.
Anywhere without a zone keeps using your store-wide rate. Creating a zone changes the price for its countries and nothing else, so you never have to build a zone for "the rest of the world".
- Give it a name.
- Choose how it charges and fill in the numbers. Only the fields that method uses are shown.
- Pick its countries — same searchable list, with an EU shortcut.
- Create zone.
If a country ends up in two zones, the one higher in the list wins. Whisker shows you which countries overlap and which zone applies rather than refusing the overlap — a shop with both a "Germany" zone and a "Europe" zone almost always means the specific one.
Use the Order field to control which comes first: lower numbers are checked first.
- A zone with no countries is refused, because it would silently never apply.
- Switching a zone Off makes its countries fall back to the store-wide rate.
- Deleting a zone does the same.
- Zone prices appear in the order summary as soon as the shopper picks their country.
Admin → Shipping → Shipping Rates → Pickup Points
Turn on pickup and add locations — a locker, a partner shop, your own counter. Common in the EU: InPost, Mondial Relay, DHL Packstation.
Each location has a name, an address, an optional carrier, optional opening hours, and an optional fee that overrides the pickup fee.
At checkout the customer chooses Deliver to me or Collect from a pickup point. Choosing collection swaps the address form for a location list, and tax is worked out from the location's own country and state.
The chosen point is stored on the order, appears on the confirmation page and in the confirmation email, and shows in the admin as a Pickup Point block rather than a shipping address.
Admin → Shipping → Manage Carriers holds your carrier list. On an order you pick a carrier, enter a tracking number and an optional tracking URL, then Update Shipping & Notify Customer to email the customer their tracking details.
- Configuration and Settings — store country and currency
- Refunds — refunding an order, including its shipping
