Void Stranger Vita v2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@WolffsRoom WolffsRoom released this 05 Oct 00:16
ezgif-61baa2cfa6761aed

This release consolidates the largest set of Vita-specific fixes and usability improvements since the first public build.

Highlights

  • Corrected the v2.0 patcher baseline to the known-good v1.3-3 data-fix data.win; the generated file is now byte-identical to that reference build.
  • The Brazilian Portuguese files used by the patcher are also pinned to the v1.3-3 Languages/PTBR reference.
  • New Sera-style installation assistant shown before the normal loading flow when required game data is missing.
  • The assistant now searches ux0:data/voidstranger/ recursively, including subfolders, for the required files:
    • data.win
    • audiogroup1.dat
    • audiogroup2.dat
    • voidstranger_data.csv
  • If every missing required file is found exactly once but in the wrong folder, Sera asks whether the Vita should organize them automatically.
  • Choosing Yes safely moves the unambiguous required files into ux0:data/voidstranger/ and revalidates the structure before continuing.
  • Choosing No leaves all files untouched, shows a short farewell, fades to black and exits cleanly.
  • Duplicate/ambiguous layouts are never overwritten or modified automatically; the user is asked to review them manually.
  • Accidentally renamed GameMaker data files such as dataa.win are detected by their FORM header, normalized to data.win, and then checked against the expected v2.0 SHA-256 (841211AE9B699589461F27F0B4AFD6F95551F1D51D94AA4447D20B887EF9C50A).
  • If game data is genuinely missing, the assistant explains the requirement for a legitimate Steam copy, points to the Vita Patcher, shows a QR code for the project, reminds the user where the generated files belong, then fades out and exits.
  • Sera dialogue now renders character-by-character with Alkhemikal, matching the original text-speed cadence and comma pause behavior.
  • The large Sera portrait is rendered at 288x288 (+50% over the previous presentation), using neutral, happy after a successful automatic fix, and sigh after negative/manual-review responses.
  • The original snd_lev.wav asset remains packaged, but the pre-data voice backend is still under validation; the assistant no longer allows audio initialization to block or crash the repair flow.
  • Native PS Vita package version updated to 02.00.
  • Added a 30-entry trophy catalog, in-game trophy browser, unlock notifications and native trophy integration through VSTR00001_00.
  • Added contextual front-touch support for menus, trophy browsing and the fruit/orange confirm interaction without replacing the physical Vita controls.
  • Void Stranger Vita Patcher v2.0 rebuilt from the current Vita data patch and validated against an original Steam 1.1.3 installation.

Other accumulated v2.0 improvements

  • native H.264/AAC startup video playback with a skippable long intro and fade-out;
  • corrected Vita controller/gamepad path and Vita/PS4-style control reference;
  • native PS Vita trophies (VSTR00001_00);
  • improved loading presentation and first-boot cache generation flow;
  • BC3/RGBA4444 runtime texture cache generation and invalidation;
  • room/semantic texture preloading and safer texture eviction;
  • graphics options for VSync, FPS mode, brightness, stretch screen and palette/tone;
  • fixes for room fades, menu backdrops, Memories album rendering, hidden-card fog and other room-specific issues;
  • English, Finnish, Spanish, French, Italian and Brazilian Portuguese support.

Installation

  1. Install the required Vita plugins/libraries listed in the README.
  2. Run VoidStrangerVitaPatcher.exe from Void.Stranger.Vita.Patcher.v2.0.zip against an unmodified Void Stranger 1.1.3 Steam installation.
  3. Copy the generated voidstranger folder to ux0:data/ on the PS Vita.
  4. Install VoidStranger-v2.0.vpk with VitaShell.
  5. Start the game and allow the Vita to build its texture cache on first boot.

Do not reuse old pvr/ or texture-cache/ folders from previous builds.

Special thanks

Special thanks to distheusurper2 for the enormous amount of testing, detailed issue reports, patience and kindness throughout development. Many of the improvements in this release were only possible because of that effort. This project is as much his as mine, even if he would rather not take the credit.

Legal

This release does not include the complete commercial Void Stranger game data. A legitimate Steam copy of Void Stranger 1.1.3 is required.

@WolffsRoom WolffsRoom released this 10 Sep 02:06

Void Stranger

First public v1.0 release of the native PS Vita port.

Highlights

  • Now exists a Void Stranger Vita Patcher v1.0 that validates the original Steam files and generates the Vita data folder.
  • Runtime BC3/RGBA4444 texture cache generation directly on the PS Vita (pre-generated PVR/cache files are no longer distributed).
  • Fixed settings/menu grids, missing menu artwork and affected pre-stage rendering.
  • Vita graphics menu with VSync, brightness, stretch screen and the original palette/tone presets.
  • Improved in-game menu navigation and resume/back behavior.

Supported languages:

Installation

  1. Install the required Vita plugins/libraries described in the README.
  2. Run VoidStrangerVitaPatcher.exe against an unmodified Void Stranger 1.1.3 Steam installation.
  3. Copy the generated voidstranger folder to ux0:data/.
  4. Install VoidStranger-v1.0.vpk with VitaShell.
  5. On first boot, wait for the Vita to generate its texture cache. Later boots reuse it.

Warning

Do not reuse pvr/ or texture-cache/ folders from older test builds.

Void Stranger Vita v0.82-pre1 - Settings & Texture Cache Fix

Choose a tag to compare

@WolffsRoom WolffsRoom released this 08 Sep 09:12

Internal Vita test build focused on the two regressions reported after v0.81-pre1.

Changes:

  • Fixed GameMaker ds_grid_create/ds_grid_resize default cells: grids now start at numeric 0 instead of undefined.
  • Added ds_grid_set_post support to the Butterscotch runner.
  • Sanitizes invalid/out-of-range Settings menu option values before rendering.
  • Kept the direct translation lookup fix from v0.81-pre1.
  • Re-synchronized all 548 RGBA4444 texture-cache headers with the final data.win TXTR offsets.
  • The data preparation pipeline now refreshes R444 cache headers automatically after a patched data.win is selected.

Important: the data package changed. Replace/update ux0:data/voidstranger/ using the ZIP from this pre-release; installing only the VPK will leave the old cache metadata in place.

Validation:

  • 548/548 R444 cache pages validated against the final data.win.
  • 600-frame local smoke test: 0 undefined, 0 unknown-function calls.
  • Legacy/incomplete settings-file reproduction: 0 undefined before the known separate desktop-headless runner crash.

Void Stranger Vita v0.81-pre1 - Text Fix Test

Choose a tag to compare

@WolffsRoom WolffsRoom released this 04 Sep 12:50

Internal test build for the current Void Stranger PS Vita port.

Changes

  • Fixed game text being rendered as Undefined in the Butterscotch runner.
  • Reworked scrScript to resolve included.txt / extracted.txt entries directly, including negative translation IDs and English fallback.
  • Removed the broken TranslationGet path from the active Vita patch/rebuild flow.
  • Added Butterscotch support required by the current game data for load_csv, ds_grid_read, and ds_grid_write.
  • Regenerated the prepared ux0:data/voidstranger data tree and SHA-256 manifest.

Test status

  • 600-frame automated startup smoke test completes with 0 undefined text occurrences and 0 unknown-function calls in the tested path.
  • The graphical local runner remains operational with the corrected data.
  • Further full-game testing on real PS Vita hardware is still required.

Files

  • VoidStranger-v0.81-pre1.vpk: install with VitaShell.
  • VoidStrangerVita-v0.81-pre1-ux0-data.zip: extract/copy the included ux0/data/voidstranger folder to the Vita.
  • SHA256SUMS-v0.81-pre1.txt: checksums for verification.
