Release list
OpenIK 0.9.0
OpenIK 0.9.0
This will be the final pre-release before the full OpenIK 1.0 release! (Which will include Humanoid IK tools)
New
- Multi FABRIK solver: solve several chains that share joints as one tree. Branches can turn together (Rigid junction) or each turn on its own pivot (Point junction).
- Two Bone IK solver: a fast solver for arms and legs, with end rotation to match a target or plant a foot on a surface.
- Poles for all solvers: make bones bend toward a pole target.
Samples
- New Multi FABRIK Chains scene with a rigid and a point junction example.
Turn off Gizmos in the Scene view for much better performance!
Breaking change
- Target, Joints, Poles, and Tolerance moved from
OpenIKSolverBasetoSingleChainSolverBase. Scripts that read them through anOpenIKSolverBasereference need to useSingleChainSolverBaseinstead. Saved scenes keep their settings.
Docs
- Rewritten for the essentials and better readability.

details.
OpenIK 0.3.0
OpenIK 0.3.0 gives you more control over when solvers run: the new Update Mode and Apply Mode settings let a
solver do everything each frame, or let your own scripts call Solve() and Apply() when they want. The old 'SolveOnly' and 'SolveAndApply' settings are removed.
This changes the API, so check the changelog
if you have custom scripts or solvers.
The update also fixes the Jacobian solver drifting on long ball socket chains and improves the docs and method/fields naming across the Solver and Constraints API
Install with https://github.com/WouterApts/openik-unity.git#v0.3.0, and reimport the samples if you had older ones.
OpenIK 0.2.0
Changes
- Better ball socket speed limits. Speed is now measured along the path the joint actually follows, so
synchronized joints arrive together and a ball socket can no longer jump through twist outside its range. - Clearer editor tools. All solvers share one Inspector with a Motion section for Synchronize Limited Joints.
In Play mode, the slider gizmo stays at the rest position and moves with the IK parent instead of with the slider. - Refreshed samples. Basic Chain is now Sample Chains, and Robotic Arm is now Robotic Painter.
- Samples now match the actual scenes used in the demo video.
Upgrading from 0.1.0
ApplyLastOutputno longer reads the solver's Synchronize Limited Joints setting. In Solve Only mode, call
ApplyLastOutput(deltaTime, true)to synchronize limited joints.- The per-type editor classes (
FABRIKSolverEditor,CCDIKSolverEditor,HingeIKJointEditor,
BallSocketIKJointEditor,SliderIKJointEditor) are removed. This only matters if your code refers to them. - Samples import into a new
0.2.0folder with the new names. Re-import Shared Assets together with the scene
samples.
