What's New

🌍 Help translate KasetPlus

KasetPlus is now open for community translations on Crowdin. A new Help translate the app button in the sidebar (next to Support and Report an issue) opens the project so anyone can add or improve their language — no coding required.

• The app already ships in 14 languages, and the community can now push them further and add new ones.
• Italian proofreading has started — more languages to follow.

🔒 Anonymous diagnostics

A new, optional Share anonymous diagnostics setting under Settings → Privacy. When the app can't load data from YouTube, it sends an anonymous ping so breakages get spotted and fixed quickly.

• No account, no personal data, no listening history — just an error type and app/OS version.
• On by default; you can turn it off at any time.

✨ Polish

• The interface now consistently shows the KasetPlus name throughout.

What’s New

💗 Support the project

A new Support the project button in the sidebar. Back KasetPlus on Ko-fi with a one-time tip or a monthly membership, then verify with your Ko-fi email — the button turns into a Supporter badge. The sheet also shows a supporters wall (names, and how many months members have supported), newest supporter first.

• Supporting KasetPlus here powers this fork. You can also support the original Kaset from the same sheet.
• Your email is only used to check your status — the wall shows names only, never emails.

📝 Video descriptions

Hit Description on a video to expand its full description — with clickable links and clickable timestamps that seek the video, just like on YouTube.

What’s New

🔔 Notifications bell

A notifications bell in the toolbar, just like YouTube’s. When you’re signed in it shows a red badge with how many new video notifications you have; open it for the inbox and click one to jump straight to the video in the native watch view. Opening the bell marks everything seen, so only later arrivals light it up again.

🎬 Segmented seek bars

• Mixes now get a YouTube-style segmented seek bar that splits the timeline by track. ↪️ sozercan/kaset#368
• Videos with chapters get a segmented chapter bar with a per-chapter preview as you scrub. ↪️ sozercan/kaset#398
• The scrub thumbnail now lifts clear of the chapter tooltip so its timestamp no longer lands on top of the chapter name.

⭐ Favorites, per account

Favorites are now scoped to each account — switch account and you see that account’s favorites, not one shared pile. ↪️ sozercan/kaset#383

⌨️ Media keys while paused

Kaset now claims the Now Playing slot, so your keyboard’s media keys control it even when playback is paused. ↪️ sozercan/kaset#387

What’s New

🖼️ Scrub preview on the video progress bar

Hover the on-video progress bar and a thumbnail preview of that exact moment floats above the bar, with its timestamp — just like on YouTube. It follows the cursor while you scrub, so you can land on the right scene before you seek.

• Available with Settings → YouTube → Show controls on video.
• Stays clear of the “most replayed” curve and never spills past the ends of the bar.
• Not shown on live streams (YouTube provides no storyboard there) — you still get the floating timestamp while the thumbnails load.

✨ Reliability & polish

• Now-playing like status: the like button no longer shows “not liked” for a song you’ve liked when your likes finish loading after playback starts.

What’s New

🏘️ KasetPlus Community — right inside the app

A brand-new Community hub, opened from the sidebar. No browser needed:

• Report an issue: browse open issues, and compose a new one straight from the repo’s issue templates, with auto-collected diagnostics (app / macOS / hardware info and recent logs — fully reviewable before sending, no secrets included).
• Discussions: browse, upvote, and create discussions without leaving KasetPlus.
• Sign in with GitHub via Device Flow — no password, and your token is stored securely in the Keychain. Reading issues works without signing in.

🔴 Live streams, done right

• Live chat: watch the chat scroll by and send messages directly from the player.
• Live edge button & DVR progress bar: see how far behind the live edge you are and jump back to live in one click.
• Seeking on live streams now works correctly, and the download button is hidden where it doesn’t apply.

🚫 Ad blocker on the Music player

The ad blocker now also covers the YouTube Music player, for uninterrupted listening.

⏱️ Clickable comment timestamps

Timestamps in video comments are now clickable — tap one to jump straight to that moment.

✨ Reliability & polish

• Settings: Addons has its own tab again, the window is wider, and “controls on video” is now the default.
• Deep links: kaset:// links are now delivered reliably on launch.

What’s New

🔥 “Most replayed” heatmap

The YouTube most-replayed graph now appears on the player. Hover the video and a translucent curve of the video’s most-rewatched moments floats above the progress bar, so you can jump straight to the highlights.

• Shown only on the video itself, faded out behind the transport buttons and the time labels so nothing is covered.

➕ Create playlists from the sidebar

You can now create a new YouTube Music playlist directly from the sidebar, without leaving what you’re doing.

🌍 15 languages (and better Italian)

The interface is now localized into 15 languages.

Italian also got a KasetPlus pass to fix YouTube wording — “Iscriviti” instead of “Abbonati”, plus corrected Equalizer, queue, and AI-status strings. These corrections were also contributed back upstream in sozercan/kaset#386.

✨ Reliability & polish

• Smoother video loading: YouTube’s “unusual traffic” CAPTCHA and the EU consent page are now revealed instead of getting stuck behind a black frame, and the loading spinner stays up until the video is actually ready to play.
• No more stale playback state: switching videos quickly no longer lets an old page briefly report the wrong progress or “ended” for the new video.
• Tidier Home: video cards in each shelf now line up at a uniform height.

What’s New

🚫 Block YouTube video ads

Changed the logic for ad blocking now more reliable.

• Any server-side ad that still slips through is muted and marked with a small “Ad” badge, so it’s clear it isn’t the video.
• Toggle it under Settings → Add-ons.

🎨 SponsorBlock: proper segment colors + fixes

SponsorBlock segments now show in their correct per-category colors on the progress bar (sponsor, intro, outro, and so on), matching what you’d expect from SponsorBlock.

• A cleaner skip notice when a segment is auto-skipped, with an Undo.
• SponsorBlock no longer touches ads — it won’t seek or draw segment markers over an ad’s timeline.

✨ Playback polish

• A loading spinner now shows over the player while a video is getting ready, instead of a blank black frame.
• Various fixes to how the YouTube player loads and hands off between ads and content.

What’s New

Warning

In the current state some ads are not blocked since they come from the server.
I'm working to get an ad-free experience but this could take some time!

🔧 Fix: YouTube videos not loading (black screen)

YouTube changed how it loads video and regular YouTube videos stopped playing, staying on a black screen. This release fixes it, so videos play again. The player was keeping the <video> element hidden while isolating it, and YouTube now refuses to load the stream for a hidden player, so it’s kept rendered and the stream loads.

It also stops the ad blocker from breaking playback: with ad blocking on, videos could go black (or play for half a second and stop). The ad blocker no longer interferes with the YouTube player, it just clicks YouTube’s own “Skip” button on skippable ads, which never corrupts playback.

Note: YouTube’s server-side ads (stitched into the stream) can’t be removed from inside the player without breaking it, so those may still appear. Playback itself is fully fixed.

What’s New

🔄 Automatic updates now actually work

The in-app updater was pointing at the wrong release feed, so it never noticed new KasetPlus builds. It now checks this fork’s own feed and verifies its own signature, so from this version on you’ll get the “A new version is available” prompt automatically and can update with a single click.

One last manual step: because the fix ships inside the app, your currently installed version can’t see it yet. Install this build (kp.12) manually one time — every release after this one will update itself.

🎛️ Playback controls on the video

Show the playback controls right on the video (YouTube-style) instead of the docked bar at the bottom.

How to enable it: open Settings → YouTube → Playback Controls → “Show Controls on the Video.”
