Artificer Replicate magic items

in 5.5e artificers start with the ability to create and use two magical items from replicate magic items, this then scales as time goes on. currently in your mod, which i love playing and why i give so much feedback lol i really like you work, artficers can only use one magical item replication, and when you make a second you just lose the previous one

I can definitely understand the reasoning, especially since BG3 hands out +1 weapons and other magic gear much more freely than standard tabletop D&D does. That makes balancing infusions a lot trickier here than it would normally be.

From my perspective though, part of what makes the Artificer feel special in tabletop is the flexibility and utility that comes from maintaining multiple smaller infusions at once. Being able to combine something like a Helm of Awareness with a +1 Shield, for example, really helps sell the fantasy of a character who’s constantly augmenting themselves and their party with crafted magic items.

Without that flexibility, it starts to feel like the class loses a bit of its identity. In tabletop, Artificers also get a lot of value from crafting and item creation systems, but BG3 doesn’t really support that side of the class in the same way, so infusions end up carrying much more of the class fantasy and mechanical niche on their own.

That said, I do want to emphasize that I genuinely appreciate the work you’ve put into the mod. I know balancing something like Artificer in BG3 is probably a nightmare, and I’m not trying to come at this from a “you’re doing it wrong” angle. It’s more that, as someone who really enjoys the class, it’s a little disappointing to see one of its defining strengths pulled back this much.

Out of curiosity, is the concern mainly around weapon-based classes taking a small Artificer dip for access to the weapon infusions?

That's completely fair feedback, honestly.

A big part of Artificer's tabletop identity does come from stacking multiple smaller infusions and gradually turning both themselves and the party into walking magic item collections. BG3 also lacks a lot of the crafting/economy limitations that normally help balance that fantasy in tabletop, so infusions end up carrying much more of the class identity by themselves here.

The problem on the implementation side is that BG3's itemization is already extremely high-powered compared to tabletop 5e. Once you combine:

• freely available magic gear,
• multiclass dipping,
• permanent item effects,
• and infusion stacking,

the class can scale out of control very quickly, especially for martial multiclass builds taking small Artificer dips.

So it's less about "removing Artificer identity" and more about trying to prevent the class from completely dominating BG3's existing item ecosystem.

That said, your point about flexibility and class fantasy is absolutely valid. But to be honest, I don't think it's a good idea to implement this directly into the game's mechanics, since it could very easily undermine the balance the mod is trying to achieve.
