The first preview of Free Riders Recompiled, an unofficial port of the Xbox 360 version of Sonic Free Riders.

Important

No game data is included. You need your own copy of the game: Sonic Free Riders (USA, Europe) disc image (.iso). The launcher installs the game's data from it on first run.

This is a pre-release: the game boots, the menus work and races can be played, but much of the game is untested and it may stop or misbehave.

Unpack into a folder of its own, start FreeRidersRecompiled, choose your disc image, then Start game. Settings, saves and game.log are kept beside the launcher (on Android, in the app's files directory).

What works

  • Title, menus, Free Race from start to results, Grand Prix story scenes and races (tested through the start of Tails's chapter), saving records.
  • Playing without Kinect: buttons stand in for voice commands, the pad for body movements (see the README's controls).
  • Launcher in English and Traditional Chinese; window size, full screen, graphics backend and more.
  • Android: touch controls and tilt steering; textures are decoded for GPUs without BC formats.

Known limits

  • Only the USA/Europe disc is supported.
  • Linux and Android draw only the shaders in the bundled shaders.pack; a shader missing from it stops the game there (Windows translates missing shaders itself).
  • Android has been tested in the emulator and briefly on an Adreno 750 device; please report problems with your device's model.
  • The APK is signed with a development key.
