Downloading ROMs

Basic Download

  • Tap the download button on any game card or in the Game Detail screen
  • Freegosy downloads the ROM from your RomM server via HTTP with progress tracking
  • Downloads appear in the Downloads tab with real-time progress

Archive Extraction

  • Freegosy automatically extracts archives after download
  • Supported formats: .zip, .7z, .dmg, .tar.gz, .tar.xz
  • On Windows and macOS, bundled 7-Zip (7zr.exe / 7zz) handles 7z archives
  • On macOS, native unzip and tar handle .zip and .tar.* formats

Multi-file ROMs

  • Games flagged as multi-file in RomM (e.g. multi-disc PS1) are extracted into a named folder
  • Freegosy picks the correct disc/file at launch via the disc picker dialog

Download Cache

  • Freegosy tracks which ROMs are already downloaded locally
  • The download button changes to show "Downloaded" status
  • Deleting a local ROM from the Game Detail screen removes it from the cache

Windows PC Games

  • PC games (.zip archives) are extracted automatically
  • Freegosy scans the extracted folder for the main .exe using heuristics (largest exe, name match)
  • If auto-detection fails, a manual path picker appears
  • You can override the exe path at any time from the Game Detail screen
