NVDA For VS Code Version 20.1.0

This release improves intellisense and general editing in the following ways:

  • The 'Suggest' prefix is not being announced every time the intellisense popup is activated,
  • When switching editors by using Control+Tab for example, the focused line in the new editor is being read automatically,

Issues and ideas

After the completion item is inserted NVDA frequently repeats the first few characters of the line. It will be very likely improved if the add-on will be able to use caret events fired by the editor - what should be possible.

The next step will be introduction of settings that will allow for the following:

  • Switching on and off announcement of the 'Suggest' prefix unless the logic will be accepted into Visual Studio Code itself,
  • Specifying what will be announced after the code completion item gets inserted to the editor: nothing or the accepted item,
  • Speech dictionary rules for custom reading of different parts of code, such as not silencing opening/closing brackets when they are the only characters in the line.

Completion characters that allow to continue typing while the code completion popup is active do not fire contextual suggestions for the properties/methods and so on. Currently, the currently suggested item needs to be commited to the editor by using enter or tab key and then a dot will trigger the expected behavior.

Since the add-on is using very useful overrides from the NVDA's built-in module, there is no automatic switching to browse mode when for example previewing Markdown documents in HTML. Pressing insert+space will toggle the between forms and browse modes.

The branch has some conflicts with the master branch, which will be addressed in the next release.
