Terminalis 3.8.0
Terminalis 3.8.0
Changes from 3.7.0:
Added
- Child terminals. Open up to three child terminals per profile, each with its own shell,
scrollback, history, remembered directory, command status, and notification target. Children
share the parent's settings and saved commands. - Panel views. Work with related terminals together or select any pane as a standalone
terminal from the sidebar and terminal switchers. Tag tabs show the panel and each pane's status. - Pane controls. Rotate the layout with Cmd+Shift+D, and move focus between panes with
Cmd+Right Arrow and Cmd+Left Arrow. Terminalis remembers each profile's orientation.
Changed
- Terminal shortcuts. Cmd+D creates a child terminal; Duplicate Terminal moves to
Cmd+Shift+T. - Stable panel sizing. Panes share a row-aligned layout, so changing focus keeps dividers
and window height steady. - Shell exits. Exiting a child shell closes that child. Exiting the primary shell starts
a fresh shell while preserving its scrollback and the other panes. - Notification sound. Packaged macOS notifications use the system's default notification
sound in place of Pop and other named sounds.
Fixed
- Prevent stretched terminal frames during quick panel resizing.
- Disable native Writing Tools and the Siri hover affordance in the main terminal view to
avoid the affected macOS 27 text-assistance crash path. - Fix packaged macOS alerts that were accepted without appearing. Notification delivery now
uses the modern macOS notification service, including foreground alerts and click routing
to the originating terminal.

Changes from 3.5.2:
Added
- AI harness tracking. Supported coding agents show a robot indicator across terminal lists.
Amber marks an unvisited request for your attention; visiting the focused terminal acknowledges it. - Harness integrations. The AI Harnesses page detects configured agents and lets you install
integrations individually or together. Help tips explain each agent's capabilities, and
terminalis harness statusanddoctorprovide diagnostics. - Compact command labels. Print a saved command's name or short preview instead of its full
script while keeping output and interactive input visible. Available for profile and global
commands in Bash, Zsh, and Fish. - Notification modes. Scripts can request persistent or transient alerts with
terminalis-notify --persistentand--transient. Use--before a message starting with a dash. - Local crash diagnostics. Session logs, panic reports, and interrupted-run records help
investigate unexpected exits. Open them through Help → Open Diagnostics Folder…; records
stay on your Mac.
Changed
- Notification lifetime. Harness alerts, command failures, and explicit persistent script
alerts have no expiry timer. Enable alerts and choose Persistent for Terminalis in macOS
Notifications settings. Ordinary script and successful-command alerts are removed five seconds
after delivery, including from Notification Center history. Script alerts use the Pop sound. - Environment values. Spaces and quotes are preserved automatically;
$NAMEand${NAME}
references still expand. Existing saved-command values that use shell quotes or expressions
need adjustment: remove extra wrapping quotes and move evaluation such as$(...)into the
command script. - Terminal filters. Cmd/Ctrl+1, 2, and 3 select All, Failed, and Running. Numbered shortcuts no
longer switch tag groups; 4 through 9 are unassigned. - Command controls. The Run pill stays hidden while manually entered commands are running.
Cmd/Ctrl+R keeps the command picker browsable, with Run actions disabled until the shell is idle.
Fixed
- Preserve leading and trailing whitespace, quotes, and backslashes in saved environment values.
- Correct status-indicator alignment and horizontal-tab placement, and avoid an extra blank line
when clearing Zsh input before running a saved command.

Changes from 3.5.1:
Fixed
- ChatGPT connections in signed macOS builds. Fixed the bundled AI helper's startup crash that caused “Could not reach the provider helper or service. Try again.” and prevented ChatGPT connections from working in the distributed app.
- Disconnecting and removing failed AI connections. Disconnect and Remove can now clear a connection's saved credentials even when the helper cannot start or respond. Failed cleanup keeps the connection visible and reports an actionable error; successful removal stays busy until the updated settings are saved.

Changes from 3.3.3:
Added
- Command Assistant. Press Cmd+I or choose Action → Generate command… in an idle terminal to turn a description into an editable shell command. Review the result and press Enter separately to run it. Requests and drafts stay with their terminal when switching tabs; results generated for a changed terminal remain available to copy, regenerate, or dismiss.
- ChatGPT connections. Connect through browser sign-in in Settings → AI, choose an available model, and set a default connection. The app includes its AI helper, so no separate Node.js or Codex installation is required. Generation sends your request, shell, operating system, and current folder; it does not automatically include terminal output, history, environment values, or file contents.
- Command-line launching. Launch commands from scripts or another terminal with
terminalis --command, plus working-directory, tag, name, and environment options. Each request creates a persistent terminal and returns after command delivery, without waiting for completion. Explicit environment overrides apply only to that invocation, and the command does not automatically rerun when Terminalis next opens.
Changed
- Organized AI settings. MCP terminal access now lives in Settings → AI, above Generate commands. Setup guidance and disabled-access messages point to the new location.
- Consistent command input. The Generate command field now matches the tab title's font and size, with regular-weight text.
Fixed
- Interactive saved commands. Multiline scripts can wait for
readand foreground-program input without consuming their remaining script lines. Ordinary zsh and Fish commands use the same paste-and-submit behavior for single-line and multiline scripts. - Command status and cancellation. Running state tracks the full saved script, including input waits. Stopping a saved command cancels the invocation rather than continuing into later statements, including when Fish is waiting for input.
- Readable history replay. History preserves the authored script and recovers older encoded entries. Replaying zsh commands retains the required working-directory setup across shell reinitialization.
- Sidebar counter alignment. Corrected the vertical alignment of the sidebar status counters.

Changes from 3.2.0
Added
- Reworked terminal profile editor.
- Hidden environment values. Terminal and attached-command editors now offer a Hide control with temporary reveal. Stored values use reversible obfuscation to reduce casual plaintext exposure; they are not encrypted.
- Portable format version 2. Exported terminal bundles preserve hidden environment-value settings through import and re-import. Existing version 1 bundles remain supported.
- Go to working dir. Use Action → Go to working dir or Cmd+/ to return an idle shell to its profile's configured directory without restarting it.
Changed
- Refreshed terminal layout. The terminal sits inside a continuous sidebar-colored frame, with smaller rounded corners, a soft shadow, and tighter sidebar spacing. Collapsing the sidebar keeps an even border around the terminal.
- More reliable command startup. Saved commands wait for a clean, authenticated shell prompt before being sent. Replacing a foreground program stops interrupting once the shell regains control, avoiding stale-directory prefixes, duplicated command text, and launch stalls.
- Clearer command selector. Profile and global commands have distinct headings. Unnamed commands have a recognizable prompt marker, and command scripts use a smaller type size beneath their names.
- Simplified global-command editing. The smaller Advanced dialog focuses on the command name and script. Existing global environment values remain preserved and executable, but are no longer editable in Settings.
Fixed
- Changing whether an unchanged environment value is hidden no longer asks to reinitialize the terminal.
