Releases: adbole/Tornadic
Release list
v1.5.4
v1.5.3 - Inter Font and FireFox Love
In this update Tornadic adopts the Inter font family and brings fixes for FireFox.
Changes
- Added the Inter Font Family.
- Set the Inter Front as the preferred front for Tornadic.
- Removed fonts from the fallback list which didn't work well with Tornadic's style (remaining fonts are for system, so different users may see different results if their system default has been changed).
Fixes
General
- Added titles to ranges in Radar
FireFox
- Fixed range style in FireFox.
- Fixed issue with TouchEvent for Chart's Tooltip (the same issue was present with Radar's Peek but wasn't detected in Chart at the time)
v1.5.2 - County Alerts
County alerts have been enabled for the Alert widget.
v1.5.1
This update brings changes to how ensemble and weather data is handled.
Changes
Open-Meteo Forecast/Airquality Data Fetching
- Added a throttle to prevent requests when regaining focus rapidly. Only revalidates if 3 minutes have passed since last focus.
Open-Meteo Ensemble Data Fetching
- Ensemble data will now only refresh data for a given variable every 30 minutes (data is automatically refreshed every hour if new data wasn't fetched recently).
Note: Ensemble data isn't considered as urgent as the deterministic forecast data since its intended mainly for future forecasting. This change aims to bring a balance between keeping data fresh and preventing over fetching.
- Updated loading message to also show when revalidating
Fixes
Ensemble
- Stale data is now properly displayed when appropriate.
v1.5.0 - Ensemble
This release brings Ensemble and CAPE data to Tornadic.
New
Ensemble Data
Ensemble data allows you to see a range of potential forecasts over the usual singular deterministic one. Tornadic will highlight the min, max, and average values among the model runs. Additionally, Tornadic will highlight specific values which are potential outliers (outliers are based on the 1.5 * IQR rule). All runs are grayed out in the background allowing for easy viewing of how everything is gathered together.
Note: Ensemble data is gathered on-demand to reduce potential API cost. This ensures you don't request too much data from the API that you won't use.
CAPE
CAPE is now supported in Tornadic through the standard and ensemble charts.
Changes
Charts
- Updated how the upper and lower bounds are calculated for some variables
- Updated the formatting of axes for values over or equal to 1000
- Updated chart margins
Chart Modal
- Added new Ensemble Chart
- Added CAPE variable
Fixes
Radar / Peek
- Fixed bug with Firefox not defining TouchEvent
v1.4.2
v1.4.1
Changes
Alert
- Updated Alert to only take into account the previous alert's time when determining if a new one has become available (previously saved all previous alerts even though only one was used).
Widgets
- All widgets have had their blur reduced from 10px down to 3px.
Fixes
Alert
- The Alert widget will no longer notify you of new alerts when peeking at a location.
v1.4.0 - Data Retrieval
This update brings improvements to how data is handled and gathered to improve user experience along with new features.
Changes
New Notification Support
You can now receive notifications from Tornadic when a new alert from the NWS is published. Notifications are sent when in the app and when it's in the background. This ensures you always know when a new alert is uploaded so you can stay aware of severe weather.
To turn off notifications, simply revoke Tornadic's permissions.

Alerts
- Alerts are now gathered based on your latitude and longitude rather than the forecast zone provided by the /points endpoint for the NWS API. This ensures alerts that are relevant to your coordinates are given even when the forecast zone may not be affected.
- When irrelevant alerts exist, your coordinates are now used in conjunction with the forecast zone to determine if one is relevant to you.
- New: Sends a notification when new alerts are issued.
Radar
- Rejoice! Radar Alert Mode is now located within the Radar Settings. No more switching between the radar and the settings to see all of the alerts in the nation!

Data Retrieval Changes
The way data is gathered and kept has changed in this update to make the user experience more enjoyable and to support new features.
- NWS Alerts now always refresh even when in background (before they would pause)
- Data is now kept through major key changes so you see the skeleton loader less often. Instead, a new loading bar will be present to indicate new data is on the way (or that you should expect a toast to pop up saying something went wrong) in the following situations:
- Open-Meteo Forecast/Air Quality URL change (changing unit settings causes this)
- NWS Alert endpoint URL change (turning on and off Radar Alert Mode causes this)
