Number and Multiple Number Fields

Number fields store and display a single numeric value in an XMP property. Multiple Number fields (MultiNumber) display a list of values, one per row, stored in an XMP array.

Configuring a Number Field

Each Number field requires:

• Namespace — The XMP namespace URI for the property (e.g., http://ns.adobe.com/exif/1.0/).
• Prefix — The namespace prefix used in XMP serialization (e.g., exif).
• Property Name — The XMP property name (e.g., GPSAltitude).
• Display Name — The label shown above the field in the View.

Number Formatting Options

EXIF Rational Format

Some XMP/EXIF properties store numeric values as rational numbers — a fraction written as numerator/denominator (e.g., 169/1, 22/7, 1/500). This is the standard format for EXIF properties such as GPS coordinates, exposure times, aperture, and focal length.

Enable EXIF rational format when working with properties like:

• exif:GPSAltitude
• exif:FNumber
• exif:FocalLength
• exif:ExposureTime

When rational format is enabled:

• On display — The rational string is converted to its decimal equivalent (e.g., 169/1 → 169, 22/7 → 3.142857…).
• On edit — The decimal value entered by the user is converted back to a rational string before being written to XMP, using GCD simplification.

Decimal Places

When rational format is enabled, you can optionally limit how many decimal places are shown. Set Decimal places to a value from 0 to 10. Leave blank (or unset) to show all digits.

Examples with 22/7:

• Decimal places = 0 → 3
• Decimal places = 2 → 3.14
• Decimal places = 5 → 3.14286
• Unset → 3.142857142857143

Display Unit

You can add an optional Display unit label (e.g., m, °, fps, mm) that appears inline with the value when the field is not in focus.

• The unit is display-only — it is not stored in the metadata.
• When you click into the field to edit it, the unit label disappears and only the raw number is shown.
• The field width stays consistent whether the unit is shown or not.

Examples:

• Altitude with unit m — displays as 168 m when idle, 168 when editing.
• Aperture with unit f/ — displays as f/ 2.8 when idle.
• Angle with unit ° — displays as 45 ° when idle.
