OnAir 0.2.2

This release is mostly about reception: every receiver was checked against what goes wrong with real radios and real recordings, and about 50 problems were fixed. If a signal didn't decode in 0.2.1, please try it again.

Better reception with real radios

  • Sample-clock error is now corrected in DVB-T2, DVB-T, ISDB-T and ATSC 3.0. Radios whose clock is a few tens of ppm off used to lose data, especially in 32K DVB-T2.
  • Signals that aren't centred are now found: a tuning error of tens of kHz, or a recording made at an offset (gqrx, SDR#). This covers DVB-T2 (up to ±570 kHz), DVB-T, DTMB, ISDB-T, ATSC, ATSC 3.0, DAB (including L-band), DRM, CDR and FM.
  • Swapped I/Q (mirrored spectrum) now works in ISDB-T, DVB-T, DTMB, ATSC, DAB, DRM, CDR, HD Radio, analog TV and DMR.
  • Bad samples from the radio (NaN or infinity) no longer crash DVB-S, and no longer stop DRM, analog TV or ATSC until a reset.
  • Echoes:
    • ATSC decodes when a reflection is stronger than the direct signal.
    • DVB-S2 decodes with echoes.
    • FM keeps RDS with a 10 µs echo.
  • FM:
    • RDS on mono stations.
    • The DC spike sitting on the station is removed.
  • DVB-T2:
    • Older transmitters (V1.2.1) whose L1-post was read as scrambled.
    • Frame counting that discarded service lists.
    • Better tracking of the last symbol of each frame.
    • DC offset removal.
  • DVB-T:
    • TPS with whole-carrier tuning errors.
    • Hierarchical streams (both high and low priority).
    • More TPS variants accepted.
  • DAB:
    • UEP services (many MP2 stations) now play.
    • Audio carries on after a multiplex reconfiguration.
  • ISDB-T: keeps reception through a TMCC change.
  • HD Radio: works next to a much stronger neighbouring station.
  • Narrowband:
    • Packet/APRS and pagers follow the radio's tuning error automatically.
    • DMR finds signals up to 22 kHz off and handles mirrored spectra.
    • Inmarsat-C finds a channel pushed 77 kHz away.
    • SSTV reads its header with the dial a little off.

New

  • Modes:
    • HD Radio (station data, no HDC sound)
    • China Digital Radio (CDR, service data, no DRA+ sound)
    • DMB video in DAB ensembles
    • DVB-S2X
    • POCSAG and FLEX pagers
    • APRS / AX.25 packet
    • RTTY, SSTV and FreeDV. FreeDV sound needs the codec2 library installed: brew install codec2, apt install libcodec2-1.2 or MSYS2's mingw-w64-ucrt-x86_64-codec2. It isn't bundled yet.
  • Record IQ: a button next to Copy diagnostics, and onair-cli --record. This lets you send a recording when something doesn't decode.
  • NAVTEX messages are saved as text files (#25).
  • The status bar shows where samples are lost: in the radio link or on the CPU.

Fixes

  • The UDP/RTP stream no longer drops DVB-T, ISDB-T, DTMB and ATSC data, which used to make VLC stutter.
  • Video is shown in its correct aspect ratio. 16:9 SD channels were squashed to 4:3.
  • Meshtastic presets other than ShortFast now decode, thanks to @WispAyr (#24).
  • The map no longer downloads tiles that have already left the screen, thanks to @A2ureIm4la (#22).

The new modes are experimental and have been tested with built-in test signals. Recordings of real signals are very welcome: use Record IQ.
