MorseCQ 1.0.1 is a bug-fix release of the account-free, offline Morse code trainer. It improves the first day for beginners, makes saving and clearing more reliable, and adds much broader automated testing.

What's new since v1.0.0

A better first day

• No false "due for review". The home screen counts only characters whose review date has come. Before, K showed as due on first launch, and a new character showed as due right after it was unlocked.
• A next step after passing. The challenge summary offers "Practise the new character" and "Hear" it.
• Interrupted rounds are handled fairly. If you leave the app mid-round, the round is marked as interrupted. The first replay afterwards doesn't count as assistance.
• Clearer first lesson.
  • The worked answer's buttons are now numbered ("Play sound 1/2"), so their names don't give away the answer.
  • A new "K, a pause, then M" tile demonstrates the gap between characters.
  • On phones, the dit/dah keys scroll into view when they appear.
• Display and wording.
  • "Mastered" chips now have their own colour.
  • The listening summary says "heard" instead of "sent".
  • The lesson duration, round count and speed-lock text are corrected in all ten languages.

Saving and clearing

• Leaving the app during a save no longer risks losing the newest progress. A second save now runs inside the same background task.
• A failed earlier save no longer blocks Me → Clear learning data.

Other fixes

• Key setup: deleting a keying profile keeps the keyer mode in Learn in sync with the active profile.
• Training settings: Retry after a load error shows loading again instead of the stale error.
• CW speed tool: the overall-speed figure is correct when the tool first opens.
• Dead code: unused screens left over from the chat era have been removed.

Quality

• Unit and widget coverage of the app rose from 88% to 94%.
• Real-app tests: they launch the real app and tap through Learn, Reference, Me, the offline storage contract and the beginner path. They now run on all five platforms in CI: macOS, Linux, Windows, iOS simulator and Android emulator.
• Screenshots: the gallery was regenerated on all five platforms.

  • Windows: SmartScreen → More info → Run anyway.
• Android and iOS have not been tested on physical devices yet, only on emulators and simulators. Audio latency, haptics and keying feel still need checking on real hardware.
• iOS distribution through the App Store is still blocked on the GPL-3.0 licence question.

What's new since v0.2.0

Account-free and offline

• No account, no network. Learn / Reference / Me open immediately; progress, materials and recordings stay on the device. Me → Clear learning data removes them after confirmation.
• Chat moved to DitMesh. Accounts, Tox chat and identity backup are no longer part of MorseCQ. Data from v0.x is not carried over — this release starts a fresh learning profile.

Learning

• A complete beginner path. The first lesson teaches hearing dit/dah and K/M, then guided receive and send practice before independent copying. Koch lessons advance through a challenge that needs 50 symbols at 90% with every new character copied at least ten times; assisted practice never unlocks a lesson.
• Advanced practice. A persistent mistake notebook, whole-word and sentence head-copy listening, and first-QSO, conversation and contest goal routes.
• QSO simulator with contest and park-to-park POTA exchanges, corrections and targeted repetition.
• Realistic radio conditions (noise, fading, QRM) for receive drills, external keys and keyers with configurable key bindings, and Chinese telegraph-code practice.
• Placement check, spaced review, daily plans, statistics, learning materials, the recorded-audio workbench, microphone decoding, reference and translator, and amateur-radio tools, all offline.

Fits every screen

• Every screen, dialog, sheet and menu checked on phones (including notched and small iPhones, both orientations), tablets and desktop windows, in all ten languages, at text sizes up to iOS's largest accessibility size. Nothing is cut off, hidden under the notch, home indicator, keyboard or floating button, or shrunk below a readable size; rotating keeps your place, typed text and open drill.
• Ten interface languages and five visual styles, light and dark.

Known limitations

What's new since v0.1.1

Learning

• Daily plan. Pick a 5-, 10- or 15-minute plan of review, focus, course and send steps. Speed advice is based on your recent results and is applied only when you tap it.
• QSO simulator. Practise answering a CQ or calling CQ. Each part of the exchange is checked: calls, RST, name, QTH, confirmation, and 73 with <SK>. You can ask for AGN or QRS, get hints, and resume an unfinished QSO later.
• Sending rhythm. Compare your keying against the standard timing, replay both, and practise the characters you get wrong.
• Learn without an account. Training now starts on a local guest profile. Its progress moves over when you create or restore an identity. Chat still needs an identity. An optional placement check suggests a starting lesson.
• Your own materials. Add your own texts, word lists and callsigns. Import and export TXT/JSON, and export practice audio as WAV.
• Recording workbench. Open a WAV recording, loop a selection, decode it, and score your own copy against it.
• More receive drills and a radio tools page: Maidenhead locators, distance and heading, band edges, antenna lengths.

Chat

• Practise from chat. Copy a received message by ear on its own page, or save it as training material. Listen-only mode hides message text so you have to copy by ear.
• Message management. Search the history with filters and jump to any message. Bookmark messages. Cancel a queued send or retry a failed one.
• Received Morse can auto-play, and the composer accepts keyed input only.
• A built-in "me" conversation for notes to yourself; it cannot be deleted.

Everywhere

• Renamed to MorseCQ, with fixed icons on every platform.
• Ten interface languages, including the reference content.
• Fixes from the mobile, chat, Learn and localisation reviews; refreshed screenshots.

Known limitations

• Not signed or notarized. macOS: right-click the .pkg → Open (or run xattr -d com.apple.quarantine <file>). Windows: SmartScreen → More info → Run anyway.
• Android is signed with a debug key: fine for sideloading, but it won't upgrade to a future store build. Android and iOS have not been tested on physical devices yet, only on emulators and simulators.

• Linux packages are built on Ubuntu 24.04 and need its glibc or newer.
• In the recording workbench, a selection longer than five minutes plays only its first five minutes. Decoding noisy 44.1 kHz audio can produce false characters.

What's in it

• Learn — Koch-method course with Farnsworth spacing, copy drills, send practice on an on-screen straight key / iambic paddle and on the desktop keyboard, real-time decoding, confusion matrix, spaced repetition, daily goals; progress stored per identity.
• Listen — decode Morse from the microphone (Goertzel tone detection, auto-tune).
• Chat & Groups — friends by Tox ID or QR, Tox NGC groups; messages are plain text (readable by any Tim2Tox client) and replayed as dits and dahs at the listener's speed; "listen first, then reveal" training mode.
• Reference — alphabet, punctuation, prosigns, Q-codes, CW abbreviations, two-way text ↔ Morse translator.
• Me — encrypted identity backup / restore, training settings, statistics, language (English / 简体中文), notifications.
• Desktop shell (tray, close-to-tray, window persistence) on macOS, Windows and Linux.
