Sudo Play 1.0.2

A small fix to how Sudo Play 1.0.1 is packaged. The app itself has not changed.

Fixed

  • The app inside the disk image now carries its own notarization ticket. In 1.0.1 only the disk image had one, so a copy moved to Applications needed the network to be checked on its first launch. It now opens offline too
  • The disk image shows the Sudo Play icon instead of a generic disk

Install

  1. Download Sudo-Play-1.0.2-arm64.dmg below
  2. Open it and drag Sudo Play to Applications. If you have an earlier version, choose Replace. Your settings stay
  3. Open Sudo Play. macOS asks once whether to open an app downloaded from the internet. Click Open

The first time you press Play, macOS asks whether Sudo Play may control Spotify. Click Allow, so it can start the playlist in the Spotify app.

Sudo Play does not update itself, because the daily catalog download is its only network call. To hear about new releases, choose Watch, then Custom, then Releases on this repository.

Requirements

  • A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later). There is no Intel build yet
  • The Spotify app, or a browser for the web player

A small fix to Sudo Play 1.0.0.

Fixed

  • The menu bar footer no longer wraps. In 1.0.0 the catalog date broke over two lines, and so did "Add a playlist". The footer now says "Updated 2026-10-14", and Settings still says "Catalog updated"

Install

  1. Download Sudo-Play-1.0.1-arm64.dmg below
  2. Open it and drag Sudo Play to Applications. If you have 1.0.0 or the beta, choose Replace. Your settings stay
  3. Open Sudo Play. macOS asks once whether to open an app downloaded from the internet. Click Open

The first time you press Play, macOS asks whether Sudo Play may control Spotify. Click Allow, so it can start the playlist in the Spotify app.

Install

  1. Download Sudo-Play-1.0.0-arm64.dmg below
  2. Open it and drag Sudo Play to Applications
  3. Open Sudo Play. macOS asks once whether to open an app downloaded from the internet. Click Open

The first time you press Play, macOS asks whether Sudo Play may control Spotify. Click Allow, so it can start the playlist in the Spotify app.

The build is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so the "Open Anyway" steps of the beta are no longer needed.

Coming from the beta

Download this DMG and drag Sudo Play to Applications, then choose Replace. Your settings stay. The beta does not update itself, because Sudo Play makes no network call except the daily catalog download.

Replaced by Sudo Play 1.0.0, signed and notarized. Download that one instead: it opens with no Open Anyway steps. Beta users: download it and choose Replace, your settings stay.

The first build of Sudo Play, a small macOS menu bar app that picks today's Spotify playlist for you. It ships with 14 curated playlists across six genres and six developer moods.

This build is not signed yet

The Apple Developer account for Sudo Play is waiting for Apple's approval. A signed and notarized build will follow in a few days, as soon as Apple approves it. It will open with no warning, and this beta can be replaced by it.

Until then, macOS blocks this build the first time you open it, because it cannot check who made it. To open it anyway:

  1. Open the DMG and drag Sudo Play to Applications
  2. Open Sudo Play from Applications. macOS says it cannot verify the app. Click Done
  3. Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, and scroll down to Security
  4. Next to "Sudo Play was blocked", click Open Anyway and confirm

You only do this once. If you would rather not, wait for the signed build, or run it from source.

Requirements

  • A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later). There is no Intel build yet
  • The Spotify app, or a browser for the web player
