Transfers and recovery

Queue files

Press u to upload local files or d to download remote files. Selecting a directory adds its files recursively after TideFTP scans it. The preflight window reports the number of files, directories, and bytes before you confirm.

Use + and - to change the number of concurrent transfers. Each active transfer shows its speed and estimated time remaining. The Queue header estimates the time for all queued work.

Handle existing files

The default conflict policy asks before replacing a destination file. Settings can change the policy to overwrite, overwrite when the source is newer, overwrite when sizes differ, resume, rename, or skip.

Checksum verification is off by default. When enabled, TideFTP reads both copies after a transfer and compares SHA-256 hashes. Verification doubles the bytes read. A mismatch moves the item to Failed.

Recover after a dropped connection

Automatic reconnect is on by default. TideFTP retries an unexpected disconnection with increasing delays and restores the remote directory after it reconnects. An intentional disconnect does not trigger reconnection.

TideFTP reviews transfers interrupted by the drop:

  • A missing destination can restart safely.
  • A partial destination of 16 MB or less can resume after TideFTP proves that its bytes match the start of the source.
  • A larger partial file, full file, mismatch, or inaccessible destination remains in Failed.

In the recovery panel, press Enter to resume safe items, r to restart the other items, or s to skip them. Press R on a Failed row to retry one transfer.

After two consecutive transfer failures, the connectivity check tests the local network and the server port. It pauses the queue while the server is unreachable instead of failing every remaining file.

Mirror directories in the app

Focus the source pane and press M. TideFTP compares both directory trees and displays files that are new, changed, or unchanged. Press p in the plan to include destination files that do not exist in the source. Pruning is off by default.

TideFTP compares size and modification time. It treats the source as newer when its timestamp is more than two seconds later.

Sync from the command line

sync SRC DST makes the destination match the source. A local path names the local machine. PROFILE:/path names a saved server. :/path uses the command's connection flags.

Always preview a destructive sync:

tideftp sync --dry-run --delete ./site prod:/var/www
tideftp sync --delete ./site prod:/var/www

Deletion requires --delete. It runs only after all copies succeed. TideFTP refuses to delete from the destination when the source is empty unless you add --allow-empty-source.

Useful controls include --checksum, --resume, --verify, --transfers N, --bwlimit 5M, --include GLOB, --exclude GLOB, and --max-errors N.

mirror uses lftp-style arguments. mirror REMOTE LOCAL downloads, while mirror -R LOCAL REMOTE uploads.

See Command line and scripting for command examples and a link to the full scripting reference.
