SpinWin 1.3

Choose a tag to compare

@alokdhir alokdhir released this 09 Oct 16:00

Highlights

Easier-to-find free-rotation handle. When you start a window in Free rotation, a short radar-style ring now collapses onto the rotation handle so it's obvious where to grab and drag.

Handle is always reachable. If the handle's usual spot above the window would sit under the menu bar or off-screen, it now moves to the bottom or a side of the window instead.

Tidier menu. About and Quit are now separated in the menubar menu.

Install

  1. Download SpinWin-1.3.zip, unzip, and move SpinWin.app to /Applications.
  2. Launch it and grant Screen Recording and Accessibility when prompted.
  3. Left-click the menubar icon to rotate a window; right-click for the menu.

Requires macOS 14 or later. Signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple, so it launches without Gatekeeper warnings.

  2. Launch it and grant Screen Recording and Accessibility when prompted.

SpinWin 1.12

Choose a tag to compare

@alokdhir alokdhir released this 28 Jul 22:05

Highlights

Dragging the rotated proxy now sticks. Previously, moving the rotated overlay to a new spot on screen and then pressing Escape (or otherwise stopping rotation) would snap the real window back to its original, pre-rotation position. Now the real window reappears wherever you left the proxy, even if it was mid-spin, animating back to upright the same way rotation is applied.

Install

  1. Download SpinWin-1.12.zip, unzip, and move SpinWin.app to /Applications.

SpinWin 1.11

Choose a tag to compare

@alokdhir alokdhir released this 25 Jul 18:19

Highlights

Backing out of window selection is easier. Escape used to be the only way to dismiss the window picker. Now clicking the menubar icon a second time closes it too, so the same button both opens and cancels selection.

Because the picker's dimmed overlay covers the menu bar, that click never reached the icon before; SpinWin now recognizes it and cancels, while ignoring the second half of a double-click so the picker doesn't flash open and shut.

Install

  1. Download SpinWin-1.11.zip, unzip, and move SpinWin.app to /Applications.

SpinWin 1.1

@alokdhir alokdhir released this 24 Jul 23:26

Highlights

The rotation options bar is much easier to notice. When you pick a window, the bar now unfurls open from a narrow pill just above the Dock instead of quietly appearing. It also sits a consistent distance above the Dock, so a large Dock raises the bar rather than covering it, and it honors the system Reduce Motion setting.

Rotated windows can no longer get stranded off-screen. Because SpinWin hides the real window while showing the rotated copy, an unexpected exit used to leave that window parked out of view with no way to get it back. Windows are now restored when the app quits for any reason, including logging out or restarting.

Survives display changes. Connecting, disconnecting, or resizing a display could pull a hidden window back into view next to its own rotated copy. It now stays hidden.

Other fixes

  • Double-clicking the menubar icon no longer leaves an invisible full-screen overlay that dims the display and swallows clicks.
  • Capture failures that happen after a rotation starts now explain themselves instead of silently reverting.
  • Menu checkmarks stay accurate for angles set by dragging the rotation handle.
  • Unexpected data from another app's window is handled instead of crashing.

Install

  1. Download SpinWin-1.1.zip, unzip, and move SpinWin.app to /Applications.
