Finding Packages

Morph edited this page Jul 22, 2026 · 1 revision

The ColonyLink Package is a cheap item used by the mod. The recipe is trivial and always available, so nothing here is required to play. Look it up in JEI or EMI.

Since 1.6.5 packages can also turn up while exploring. This is a complement to the recipe, not a replacement. The idea is that someone playing a modpack stumbles across one, wonders what it is, and finds the mod in the list.

Where they appear

Chests. Village chests and pillager outpost chests. Roughly a 10 percent chance per eligible chest, so an average village yields about one.

Zombie villages use the same loot tables as normal villages, so packages appear in both.

MineColonies raiders. Barbarians, pirates, mummies, amazons, norsemen and the rest of the raid types have a chance to drop one when killed. Roughly 15 percent per raider, so a small raid usually gives you one and a large one gives you a handful.

Camp mobs are not included. They have no loot table, so there is nothing to hook into.

Turning it off or tuning it

Everything is in the [loot] section of the server config:

Option Default
package_in_chests true
package_chest_chance 0.10
package_from_raiders true
package_raider_chance 0.15

Set either boolean to false to disable that source completely, or lower the chances if you find packages too common on your server.

For pack authors

This is implemented as a global loot modifier, and every modifier is scoped to an explicit list of loot table IDs. No existing loot table is replaced or edited, and no other chest in the game is touched.

If you want to add your own targets, or remove the ones the mod ships with, a datapack can override the modifier files. The recipe is untouched either way.
