Redlight 1.3.1

  • Fixed an oversized settings window appearing when checking for updates.
  • Updated the compact menu bar icon with a circular sun behind a monitor. The inner screen is 70% opaque with an active filter and 10% opaque when inactive.
  • Added changelog release notes to the update dialog and GitHub. Both use the matching release entry from this file.

Redlight 1.3 adds command control across the menu bar, terminal, Shortcuts, Siri, and Control Center.

  • New master switch remembers your enabled displays.
  • The redlight CLI installs automatically when the app runs from Applications. Control levels, presets, Adaptive, display filters, appearance, login, and updates, or read JSON status.
  • Shortcuts and Siri actions use the same commands. Add Redlight from Control Center → Edit Controls → Add Controls on macOS 26 or later.
  • Single-instance ownership prevents multiple Redlight copies from controlling displays.
  • State-changing commands interrupt active slider and band-marker drags so an older drag cannot overwrite a command.
  • Turning Adaptive off holds the current rendered output, including during a fade.
  • Fixed Control Center extension startup crashes and adjusted its tile styling.
  • Fixed overlapping sun-chart dotted lines by using the curve's solar-elevation scale and omitting crowded guides.
  • About, CLI, and status now agree on the version; build numbers advance automatically.
  • Updated the README with setup, commands, and build instructions.

Build: 1.3 (42). Apple silicon; macOS 14 or later. Control Center requires macOS 26 or later. Download Redlight-1.3.dmg below, or use the app's Updates button. First-launch instructions for this unnotarized app are in the README.

Validation: 272 Swift tests and 8 build-version tests passed. Bundle metadata, extension entry point, entitlements, code signatures, and the Sparkle update signature were verified. Two ownership subprocess tests remain excluded because their test launcher times out.

Redlight 1.1.1

@andrewfitz andrewfitz released this 10 Sep 21:04

Summary

  • Fixes a screen flicker when minimizing windows (the 1.1 ColorSync restore was running on every screen-parameter change, including Dock/minimize).
  • Adaptive no longer hangs on desktop Macs: one-shot location with a time-zone city fallback, and a precise fix now fades in instead of jumping.
  • Universal (Apple silicon + Intel) disk image, plus smaller polish: sun-arc cache, Light Mode guides, and quieter background work.

Install

Open the DMG and drag Redlight to /Applications. The build is not notarized, so the first launch is blocked by Gatekeeper: right-click → Open (macOS 14), or System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (macOS 15+).

Test plan

  • Minimize a window with the filter on — the screen should not flicker
  • Adaptive follows the sun without a precise GPS fix (status may say “time zone”)
  • Turning Adaptive off restores the live values; Quit fades back to ColorSync
  • Intel and Apple silicon Macs both open the app

Redlight 1.1

@andrewfitz andrewfitz released this 08 Sep 21:06

Download

Open Redlight-1.1.dmg and drag Redlight to Applications.

macOS 14 or later. Ad-hoc signed; Gatekeeper may ask you to open it via System Settings → Privacy & Security the first time.

What’s new

  • External displays: turning a non-Apple monitor off and back on no longer leaves a residual red cast after you disable the filter
  • Adaptive on Mac Studio / desktop Macs: no longer stuck on locating — uses a time-zone fallback until Core Location gets a fix, so the sun waveform shows
  • About: credits, version, and GitHub link next to Quit
  • Sun arc: elevation marker dots removed; the live sun remains
