TraceWeave for Obsidian 0.1.6
Export a research project to ordinary vault files and read it on your phone without TraceWeave.
- Set the reports folder in Settings → TraceWeave. Leave it empty to use the vault root.
- Choose Export report to create a research folder with
summary.md,scheme.canvasand categorized copies inAttachments/. - Read all active notes in creation order, with creation/update dates, attributes, relationships, evidence and local attachment links.
- Open the original graph layout as a native Obsidian Canvas with node titles and labeled connections. Canvas cards link to the corresponding report sections.
- Repeated exports create numbered folders. Source notes, originals and earlier reports are preserved.
Sync the entire report folder, including Canvas and attachments, to your phone. Enable Obsidian's core Canvas plugin to view scheme.canvas. Media playback depends on the device and codec.
Compatibility: Obsidian 1.14.4 or later on desktop. TraceWeave itself remains desktop-only; the exported report uses standard Obsidian files. No new dependencies or data migrations.
Validation: 285 automated tests, lint, TypeScript, bundle and publication checks; native report/Canvas verification in Obsidian 1.14.4 on macOS. Native iOS/Windows/Linux runtime and actual device synchronization were not tested.
Before updating, close Obsidian and back up the entire vault, including hidden .twdata. Fully restart Obsidian after updating. Existing limits remain: one active writer, hidden service data requires a full backup, and ZIP import does not fully rewrite ordinary wikilinks or relative paths. A readable report is a reading copy, not a restorable project backup.
TraceWeave for Obsidian 0.1.5
Fixes Community directory source and bundle review findings. Schema validators are precompiled, React DOM rejects script creation, the official Obsidian lint passes without warnings, and vault configuration paths are protected. Also fixes draft-save failures, imports with whitespace filenames, export paths through vault-root aliases, unload races and searchable language settings.
Validation: 260 passing tests, strict source lint/typecheck, reproducible packaged build and native Obsidian 1.14.4 smoke checks on a synthetic macOS vault.
The three attached assets are built and attested by GitHub Actions. Full plugin, Unicode and bundled dependency licenses are included in main.js.
Desktop only; keep one active writer and include hidden .twdata in backups. Existing ZIP import link-rewriting limits remain documented. Community directory approval is pending; filesystem access and vault-note enumeration are intentional documented desktop capabilities.
TraceWeave for Obsidian 0.1.4
TraceWeave 0.1.4 adds English and Russian interfaces and a real screenshot gallery with fictional research projects.
- The interface follows Obsidian’s language, with an override under Settings → TraceWeave → Interface language.
- Language changes preserve the current view, filters, selected material and unsaved metadata drafts. Notes, custom type names, relationships, stored paths and existing report bytes remain unchanged.
- Dialogs, validation, accessibility labels and newly generated reports are localized.
- Screenshots: graph, dossier and materials in light/dark themes, in English and Russian.
Install or update through BRAT using andrey-torlopov/TraceWeaveObsidian, then fully restart Obsidian. For manual installation, put main.js, manifest.json and styles.css in .obsidian/plugins/traceweave/. The installable ZIP is provided below; GitHub’s source-code ZIP is not the compiled plugin. Back up the closed vault, including hidden .twdata, before updating.
Requires desktop Obsidian 1.14.4+. There is no storage-schema migration from 0.1.3. Native verification used macOS and Obsidian 1.14.4; Windows/Linux and all media codecs are not fully verified. Use one active writer. Obsidian Sync does not include .twdata. Ordinary wikilinks and relative file paths are not completely remapped during project ZIP import.
This GitHub release does not add the plugin to Obsidian’s Community search; directory approval is separate.
TraceWeave for Obsidian 0.1.3
TraceWeave brings research graphs and dossiers to ordinary Obsidian vault notes. Connect notes in place, record relationships and hypotheses, and keep attachments and research metadata together locally.
- Graph and dossier views, typed attributes, groups, evidence, trash and immutable report snapshots.
- Images, PDFs, audio/video, archives, generic binary files and extensionless materials.
- One hidden
.twdataservice folder; notes and originals remain in visible vault folders. - English/Russian documentation, shared TraceWeave artwork and MIT license.
- Explicit project transfer to the separate Docker-based TraceWeave web application.
Requires desktop Obsidian 1.14.4 or newer. The plugin interface currently uses Russian labels. Users do not need Node.js, Docker or a TraceWeave account.
Installation
The Community plugins listing is pending. Until it is approved, install BRAT from the Obsidian directory and add andrey-torlopov/TraceWeaveObsidian, or use the compiled files in this release. Fully restart Obsidian after installation or update. English guide · Русская инструкция.
Data and compatibility
Back up the whole closed vault, including hidden .twdata, before updating. Obsidian Sync excludes .twdata; syncing notes alone does not transfer the graph. Use one active writer. Updates from 0.1.0/0.1.1 migrate the earlier layout automatically.
ZIP import creates a separate project and remaps graph relations. Ordinary wikilinks and relative Markdown resource paths are not fully rewritten and may need repair after import. Files referenced only inline are not automatically included as registered materials. See backup and transfer.
Material limit: 512 MiB; report preview: 16 MiB. Native verification covers macOS/Obsidian 1.14.4; Windows/Linux native behavior, all codecs and large-vault performance are not fully verified.
Assets and verification
Obsidian/BRAT uses the separate main.js, manifest.json and styles.css. The installable ZIP also contains documentation and license notices. Verify extracted files with SHA256SUMS and the ZIP with its .sha256 file. The plugin code is MIT; third-party components retain their included licenses.
Type checks, the 199-test suite, standalone production bundle loading, publication checks, secret scans and ZIP CRC/checksums passed locally. GitHub CI is linked from the repository Actions tab.
