Codex Messenger 0.0.4 repairs installation, launchers and the update handoff while retaining the retro Messenger features and Codex CLI 0.156.1 support introduced in 0.0.3. No model or reasoning effort is pinned by the project.
- Windows launchers recognize registered custom installations and open the packaged app without requiring Node or a Codex login. PowerShell wrappers preserve child exit codes. Source and web preview launchers resolve supported Node runtimes and report startup failures.
- The Windows installer checks running Messenger copies through its native plugin, asks you to close them manually and refuses before modifying files; it no longer waits on PowerShell startup. It uses a dedicated installation folder and refuses unsafe legacy shared directories before invoking the old uninstaller. Uninstall refuses unrelated files or links. The portable wrapper correctly quotes paths containing spaces, propagates child failures and uses a private extraction directory per launch. Original Windows icons are provided beside the application archive so normal exit does not leave an extracted icon in TEMP until reboot.
- macOS launchers select the compatible app before checking source prerequisites. Development startup preserves the app identity, camera/microphone usage descriptions and a valid local ad-hoc signature. This local development signature is not Developer ID notarization.
- Development and web preview own their Vite server, reject occupied ports and clean up their processes on exit. Missing or outdated Codex CLI setup uses the official stable package.
- Verified unsigned updates show the downloaded installer and a practical next step; the update UI no longer remains stuck waiting for a restart that was not scheduled. Intel Macs reject an incompatible Apple Silicon update.
- The website opens in English, retains its French selector and links to these exact 0.0.4 downloads.
Downloads: Windows x64 NSIS installer and portable EXE; macOS Apple Silicon arm64 and Intel x64 DMG and ZIP. All six containers are executed, mounted or extracted on their native host and their contained application is launched. Checksums, per-platform manifests, actual installer/packaged-app/development-preview observations and the real Codex 0.156.1 native contract proof are attached.
These builds are unsigned: no macOS Developer ID notarization or Windows Authenticode certificate was supplied to the build workflow. On macOS, copy the app to Applications, try to open it, then use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway and confirm Open for this official download if Gatekeeper blocks first launch; see Apple's instructions. Validation covers local startup, renderer/preload isolation, installation/uninstall safety fixtures and the native Codex protocol. It does not demonstrate physical camera/microphone, external OAuth, paid model calls or signed self-replacement. See installer and launcher validation for the evidence and its scope.
