GridPilot v1.0.0-preview.4
Recursive grid now previews placement over your visible desktop and supports multi-cell selection.
- Thin grid lines and a restrained orange highlight show live proposed bounds while your desktop and windows remain visible.
- Click places one cell. Hold left-click and drag in either direction to select current leaves, including unequal nested cells; release places their axis-aligned bounding box. Escape cancels before commit.
- A divides every eligible leaf one level. Configure or clear this picker-only shortcut under Settings > General. Middle-click undoes a bulk division as one step. Depth and window minimum limits still apply.
- Fixed false minimum blocking caused by treating current/restored size as a minimum after a failed query, clamping app overrides to larger system defaults, and retaining invisible borders in standard maximized-window minimums. Unknown/default limits are labeled estimates. App refusals retain exact placement verification and recovery.
- Original HWND/process capture, physical work-area/DPI geometry, right-click subdivision and placement Undo remain intact.
Local validation: Release build with warnings as errors, portable packaging, independent source review and real desktop UI screenshots. Local test suites and native automated assertion harnesses were skipped at the owner's explicit request. Prior assertion totals do not validate this release. Existing GitHub build/core-check and release workflows remain unchanged and their results are recorded independently. Mixed-DPI/multi-monitor, custom chrome, protected/elevated/RDP apps and application-specific minimum behavior remain manual limits.
Download GridPilot-win-x64.zip, extract the entire folder, and run GridPilot.exe. Verify the ZIP with SHA256SUMS.txt. This is an unsigned Windows x64 preview; optional install/uninstall scripts and documentation are included.
GridPilot v1.0.0-preview.3
Recursive grid placement adds a 2×2 picker for the active desktop window.
- Right-click divides only that leaf; middle-click undoes the last successful division globally; left-click places; Escape cancels.
- Configure Recursive grid and maximum depth in Settings → General. New installations use Ctrl+Alt+G. Existing settings leave the new shortcut empty to preserve your bindings. Default depth is 4 (initial grid depth 1; range 1–8).
- Cells and divisions respect measured native minimum sizes. A bounded 250 ms query uses a conservative current/restored-size fallback when limits are unavailable. Exact placement refusal triggers verified recovery; app-specific rules can still prevent placement.
- Work-area cells use physical pixels, exclude the taskbar, and preserve odd edges. Focus and Draw placement remain available.
Download GridPilot-win-x64.zip, extract the entire folder, and run GridPilot.exe. The portable package includes the existing optional Install.ps1/Uninstall.ps1 scripts and documentation. Verify the ZIP with SHA256SUMS.txt. This is an unsigned Windows x64 preview.
Validation and remaining hardware/application limits are in docs/VALIDATION.md and docs/RECURSIVE_GRID.md. Hosted CI verifies compilation/core checks and builds the portable package; interactive Windows checks use disposable owned fixtures.
GridPilot 1.0 preview 2
Windows 11 x64 preview from integrated main commit a8059b5230ad3c2d8097c8ec9c47013c8c3043cf (PR35 and PR50).
Download GridPilot-win-x64.zip, extract the entire archive, and run GridPilot.exe. Keep the complete extracted folder together. The .NET runtime is included; no separate runtime installation is needed. The existing optional per-user installation scripts are included.
This preview adds Workspace Scenes, Elastic dividers in Focus and Auto Arrange, Reference Rail, Fit into free space, and desktop Draw placement with configurable snapping, Ctrl free-space restriction and Shift corner editing. Smoked Glass, visual shortcuts, saved layouts, partial workspace, physical-pixel placement and verified Undo remain available.
Ctrl drawing checks the actual final visible frame against strict live occupancy. A frame extending one pixel into a neighbor is refused and rolled back. Integration regressions cover settings migration, preserving earlier Undo when occupancy cannot be read, and scene-to-drawing target-only Undo.
Validation: exact-main CI passed build, core tests and portable packaging. The local package was built from that same commit; all 494 extracted files matched the publish folder by SHA-256. The extracted application remained running for five seconds in background mode, loaded its bundled runtime, opened no unexpected main window, and was stopped after the check. User settings were unchanged. SHA256SUMS.txt contains the ZIP checksum.
The combined core suite passed 6,175 assertions. Earlier focused native integration and Reference Rail runs passed 6,185 and 6,207 assertions respectively. Complete Draw and corrected full native/WPF validation were not completed. The owner explicitly requested merging without waiting for those tests, and that validation gate was waived. Startup and packaging checks do not establish complete feature behavior.
Earlier native checks used one 1920 x 1080 display at 100%. Physical shortcut/cursor gestures, mixed-DPI/multiple displays, 8K at 100%, high contrast/accessibility tooling, Remote Desktop/protected content and representative production applications remain manual coverage. Fixtures injected no desktop input.
GridPilot 1.0 preview 1
GridPilot's first private Windows 11 x64 preview.
Includes the charcoal/orange Focus interface, desktop screenshot grid, live window sidebar, overlap selection, saved placements, multiple monitors, gaps, Undo, hotkeys, tray controls and persistent settings.
Download GridPilot-win-x64.zip, extract the entire archive, and run GridPilot.exe. The .NET runtime is included.
This package comes from the successful Windows CI run for commit b591394. CI verified compilation and core tests. Interactive desktop tests were validated locally; mixed-DPI hardware, protected windows and Remote Desktop coverage remain tracked follow-ups.
