This page documents the APRS RX overlay application for the experimental Labs edition. Install the app version matching the running firmware with UV Studio, then launch it from F + 7.
Note
Navigation follows SetNav: use UP / DOWN on UV-K5 or LEFT / RIGHT on UV-K1. In the controls below, UP/LEFT and DOWN/RIGHT refer to these equivalent keys.
APRS RX continuously listens for AX.25 UI frames using Bell 202 AFSK at 1200 baud. Select the APRS frequency and FM modulation before launching it. The app keeps the five most recent valid frames in RAM and shows the source, destination, path, information field, received signal strength, and a 20 × 20 APRS symbol when one is recognized.
Mic-E and standard uncompressed positions are decoded into readable coordinates and related information. Compressed positions and other payloads remain available as frame text. A frame must have a valid FCS and the expected AX.25 UI control and PID fields before it is added to the history.

The speaker is not needed for decoding and is off on first use. When enabled, it follows the radio's normal squelch setting, so received packets can be heard without leaving the speaker open on noise; SQL 0 keeps it open. Squelch never gates the decoder itself. The speaker setting and frame view are saved; received frames are not retained after leaving the app. Packet sampling continues while the app is open, so key and screen updates can be briefly deferred during an incoming frame.
