Simplified staff upload workflow

WP FileShelf v0.1.5 rolls back some of the extra configuration introduced in v0.1.4 and returns the staff upload workflow to a simpler, more predictable setup.

Staff upload page

The password-protected staff uploader is once again fixed at:

/wpfileshelf/

The configurable staff upload page slug added in v0.1.4 has been removed.

The Settings page still includes an Open Page button for quick access to the uploader.

Password handling

FileShelf has returned to hash-only password storage.

• Existing upload passwords continue to work
• The encrypted/recoverable password copy from v0.1.4 has been removed
• View/Hide is still available while entering a new password
• Password fields are returned to hidden mode before Settings are saved

Frontend upload improvements kept

After a successful upload or replacement, FileShelf still shows the resulting public file URL and provides a Copy Link button.

Upgrade cleanup

v0.1.5 automatically removes settings that were only used by v0.1.4, while preserving:

• Existing upload password hash
• Public file link path
• Stored files
• File metadata
• Storage configuration
• GitHub update functionality

Staff upload and settings improvements

WP FileShelf v0.1.4 improves the staff upload workflow and makes the frontend upload page easier to configure and use.

Configurable staff upload page

The password-protected staff upload page is no longer locked to /wpfileshelf/.

Admins can now set a custom path in FileShelf Settings, with:

wpfileshelf

remaining the default.

For example:

/staff-docs/

or:

/hr-upload/

The Settings page also includes:

• Copy URL button
• Open Page button

Password improvements

• Added View/Hide controls for the staff upload password
• Password fields are automatically returned to hidden mode before saving
• Added autocomplete/password-manager suppression for FileShelf password and upload fields
• Password verification still uses the WordPress password hash
• A separate encrypted copy is stored so admins can reveal the current password later

Passwords originally saved in v0.1.3 or earlier must be entered and saved once under v0.1.4 before they can be revealed in Settings.

Frontend upload improvements

After a successful upload or replacement, FileShelf now displays the resulting public file URL directly on the staff upload page.

Staff can immediately:

• See the public link
• Copy the link with one click
• Continue uploading additional files

• Updated rewrite handling for custom staff upload page URLs
• Updated uninstall cleanup for the new settings
• Updated README and changelog documentation

WP FileShelf v0.1.3

Storage, security, and update improvements

WP FileShelf v0.1.3 improves where FileShelf files are stored, how older installations are migrated, and how plugin updates are handled from the FileShelf admin.

Storage changes

FileShelf-managed files now use:

WP_CONTENT_DIR/wp-fileshelf-uploads/
On a standard WordPress installation, this is:

/wp-content/wp-fileshelf-uploads/
This keeps FileShelf files inside the normal WordPress content area while remaining separate from the standard Media Library at /wp-content/uploads/.

Existing public FileShelf links, such as:

/hr-docs/example.pdf
remain unchanged.

Automatic migration

Existing installations using the previous root-level /wp-fileshelf-uploads/ directory are migrated automatically.

FileShelf will:

• Attempt to move the existing directory directly
• Fall back to copying and verifying files if needed
• Remove the old directory only after a successful migration
• Preserve and continue using the legacy directory if migration cannot complete safely
• Run migration correctly during both normal upgrades and activation

Security improvements

• Added direct-access protection files for supported Apache/LiteSpeed and IIS environments
• Updated uninstall cleanup to support both current and legacy storage locations
• Updated storage safety checks and marker handling

Plugin update improvements

The Plugin Updates section in FileShelf Settings now makes available updates much easier to identify.

• Highlights the latest release when it is newer than the installed version
• Adds an “Update available” status indicator
• Shows clearer installed vs latest version messaging
• Adds a direct “Update to vX.Y.Z” button
• Uses WordPress’s native plugin upgrader for the update process
• Shows update progress and success states
• Reloads the FileShelf settings page after a successful update

Notes

This release changes the physical storage location and update workflow, but does not change existing FileShelf public URLs or file records.

WP FileShelf v0.1.1

Fixes an activation fatal error affecting PHP 8.0 and PHP 8.1 installations.

The initial v0.1.0 release used the PHP 8.2-only standalone true return type in one admin method despite the plugin targeting PHP 8.0+. The declaration has been changed to bool|WP_Error for compatibility with the stated minimum PHP version.
