Free, local, open source

Claude now has its own Google Sheets integration on paid plans. Sheets MCP is the free, open-source option that runs on your computer, for Claude Desktop and Claude Code:

• Free: works on the free Claude plan in Claude Desktop.
• Local: your computer talks straight to Google, with access to spreadsheets only. No other servers.
• Open source (MIT): read it, change it, run your own.

The README and sheetsmcp.io now include a side-by-side comparison with the built-in integration, so you can pick the one that suits you.

Smaller changes

• Tool names: every tool has a readable title (e.g. "Write cells", "Add a pivot table") in Claude's tool approvals and settings.
• Version: the server reports its real version to Claude instead of 1.0.0.

Updating

• Claude Desktop: download sheets-mcp.mcpb, open it, and click Install. Then quit Claude Desktop (Cmd+Q) and reopen it.
• Claude Code: @sheetsmcp/server 1.3.4 is on npm.
