Release list
BarcodeMate 0.5.3
BarcodeMate 0.5.3 adds an update notice, so a new release no longer depends on you thinking to check the website.
- Once a day the app asks barcodemate.com which version is current. When a newer one exists, a single line appears above the workspace with a link to the download page. It never covers what you are doing and is not a dialog.
- Nothing is downloaded and nothing is installed. The link opens the download page in your browser; what happens next is your decision, as it was before.
- The request says nothing about you: no identifier, no account, and not even the version you are running. The comparison happens on your computer, so the answer is identical for everyone and we cannot tell who asked. Access logging is disabled for that address, as it is for the usage counters.
- Dismissing the notice keeps it away for that version. A later release brings it back once.
- About → Check for new versions switches it off, and then the app makes no request of its own at all.
Updating still means downloading the installer and running it yourself. People already on 0.5.2 or earlier will not see this notice, because the version that checks is this one: they will learn about a new release the way they do now, by visiting the site.
The privacy page describes the check in all 24 languages.

BarcodeMate 0.5.2
BarcodeMate 0.5.2 brings the Retail Stores workspace to the desktop app, and prints Code 128 as native Zebra commands.
Retail Stores
- Import a product list from CSV or TSV, or paste cells straight from a spreadsheet. Headers are suggested and can be remapped by hand, the decimal separator is yours to choose, and a failed import never partially overwrites the list you already have. Leading zeros in codes are kept. XLSX files still need saving as CSV or TSV first.
- Three layouts: product stickers, shelf price tags and sale tags, each with name, price, size and a short note. The code can be automatic, Code 128, EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8, QR, or left off. Automatic recognises complete 13, 12 and 8 digit codes and uses Code 128 for everything else; it never rewrites a check digit and never silently switches to QR.
- Show the old price struck through beside the new one. The discount percentage is worked out for you and rounded down, so a label never claims more than the arithmetic supports. Multi-buy offers are free text, and change only what the label says, never what the till charges.
- Search the list, set a quantity per item, correct a price, undo, and reprint only the items you tick. Preview, test page, Print All and ZPL all act on that same ticked set; searching does not quietly change it.
- Paper, printer, four margins, rows and columns, gaps, offsets, skipped positions and screen calibration are the ones you already know from Warehouse, not a second set that drifts apart from them.
- Retail lists are saved under their own key with their own backup format, so a warehouse backup cannot be imported into a retail list by mistake. A damaged list is never silently replaced by the sample one. A currency applies to the whole list, is not converted, and printing stops rather than rounding a price beyond what that currency allows.
Native Code 128 for Zebra printers
- Choosing Zebra or ZPL now emits a real
^BCfield instead of a picture of the barcode. Export and direct printing use the same path, and there is no new switch to find. QR and EAN/UPC output is unchanged. - The preview is still encoded by BWIPP. The output reads the bars actually drawn, recovers the code words including A/B/C shifts, checks the checksum, and only then writes the ZPL. Printer-side optimisation and the automatic human-readable line are turned off so the printer cannot change the width or add text of its own.
- Module width, bar height, quiet zones and coordinates come from the same whole-dot layout as the preview: 8 dots per mm at 203 DPI, 12 at 300. Automatic module width stays within the 10 dots
^BYsupports; a manual size outside that range blocks output rather than letting the printer silently resize it. - Fields are hex-encoded with
^FH, and the receiving end accepts only the command shapes it expects.
Known limits
- The new retail interface text is complete in English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese; the other 21 languages fall back to English for those strings, as the recent Warehouse additions do.
- Verification used simulated printers and an independent ZXing decoder on the exported output at both DPIs. Paper feed accuracy, print darkness and real scanner behaviour still need testing on your own hardware.
- A list holds up to 1,000 labels; CSV import is capped at 2 MB and a single ZPL job at 2 MB.

BarcodeMate 0.5.1
BarcodeMate 0.5.1 adds optional usage counts, off until you turn them on.
- The app asks once, on first start, and the answer is no by default. Declining is remembered; nothing is sent and the question does not come back.
- What a count contains is fixed in the app, not decided by the feature that reports it: an event name and one value from a closed list, two short words such as
app_exportandpng. Barcode content, saved names, file paths, imported rows, error text, identifiers and timing have no field to travel in. - Six events can be counted: the app started, with its version; which feature was used, for generating, importing, printing or exporting; the barcode format chosen; and whether one of those steps failed. Anything outside the list is refused before it reaches the network, and refused again by the server.
- About → See exactly what was sent lists every count this computer has sent, as it was sent, with its timestamp. Clear the record or switch counting off there at any time.
- A failed send is not queued and not retried: a queue that survived restarts would outlive the consent that allowed it.
- Counts reach the same endpoint as the website statistics, which has access logging disabled, and are combined into daily totals.
The About panel no longer claims the app collects no telemetry; it now states that counts are off until enabled and never contain barcode content.

BarcodeMate 0.5.0
BarcodeMate 0.5.0 adds Ideas & bug reports, a feedback area shared with barcodemate.com.
- Submit text and optional images. Choose private (the default) or public; public feedback appears immediately on the feedback board. Contact email is always private.
- Upload original PNG, JPEG or WebP images, up to 50 MiB each and 80 MiB per submission, without a fixed image-count limit. The server stores compressed display images and separate thumbnails, then discards the originals.
- View up to five thumbnails in a row; larger collections use a carousel. Open a thumbnail to view a larger image.
- Withdraw your feedback and all its images from the device used to submit it. Clearing app/browser data removes withdrawal access.
- Available in all 24 interface languages, with light and dark themes. Feedback is sent only when you choose Submit; projects and barcode data are not uploaded automatically.

Installers remain unsigned and macOS packages are not notarized.
BarcodeMate 0.4.1
BarcodeMate 0.4.1 simplifies device synchronization and recovers automatically when the first connection attempt fails.
- Home labels shows the QR code beside one short explanation. Copy link includes a hint explaining that opening it on another computer synchronizes the list. Both descriptions are available in all 24 languages.
- Removed the duplicate start button, repeated errors and manual-code controls from the computer panel. The receiving device still confirms before joining and sharing the project.
- Failed initial invitations retry automatically. Rate limits wait one minute before retrying. Ending sharing keeps the local copy and prepares a fresh QR code.
- Restored sessions retain their connected state immediately after reopening the workspace.

Shared projects still use the existing HTTPS gateway and temporary server memory for up to 24 hours. API credentials remain on the server. Installers are unsigned, Mac packages are not notarized, and physical-phone microphone and printer checks remain separate from automated validation.
BarcodeMate 0.4.0
BarcodeMate 0.4.0 connects phone inventory with desktop label printing.
- Open Home labels and scan the QR code displayed under Sync with phone, then connect in the mobile web page. An eight-digit code is also available. No account or shared Wi-Fi is required. The computer keeps its waiting code available automatically; the project is only uploaded after the phone connects.
- Edit quantities and names, or use the microphone on the phone; the computer updates its label preview. Printing remains an explicit action on the computer.
- Pairing controls and connection messages in all 24 interface languages. The phone prioritizes voice input and inventory, leaving paper setup and printing on the computer.
- Offline changes remain in the current tab's session storage and retry after reconnection. Updates carry unique operation IDs. Conflicting changes show both item lists and require an explicit choice of the entire project version.
- Pairing accepts one phone. While the computer page is open, its invitation automatically stays valid. After a long absence, an expired invitation is replaced automatically. This does not interrupt an established connection. Shared projects are temporarily held in server memory for up to 24 hours, or until either device ends sharing or the service restarts. Local projects remain separate from this temporary session; export a backup before closing a tab if work has not synchronized.
- Voice updates preserve edited badge identities and existing per-copy dates. New copies stay undated. Recording is stopped when the page moves to the background where supported.
Source commit: a3e9d7fa84affe1681803aa8982fb8c77624da53. Validated package workflow: https://github.com/Mellon/BarcodeMate/actions/runs/35416352166
Optional pairing and voice use BarcodeMate's HTTPS gateway through the native bridge. The renderer does not gain arbitrary network access. API credentials remain on the server; use BARCODEMATE_HOME_API to override or disable the gateway. Normal local label editing and printing remain available without it.
Installers are unsigned; macOS packages are not notarized. Real iPhone/Android microphone permission flows, physical printers and label stock still require hands-on verification. Mobile browser automation and synthetic audio do not replace those checks.
BarcodeMate 0.3.0
BarcodeMate 0.3.0 adds a household label workspace alongside the existing barcode tools.
- Kitchen starter labels in 24 languages, with separate Kitchen and Storage boxes collections. Edited names, quantities, zero-count labels and dates survive category switches and restarts.
- Compact editable name and quantity badges. Individual copies can have different best-before dates; selecting a date highlights matching labels without changing quantity controls.
- A4, US Letter, round labels and custom millimetre layouts. Region and language reorder suggestions without hiding sizes.
- Manually adjustable physical preview with saved screen calibration, visible label gutters and positive or negative print adjustments. Preview highlights do not appear in print or PDF.
- Automatic local saving, undo and portable JSON backup import/export. Scenario shortcuts can be added to and removed from navigation.
- Optional voice input through BarcodeMate's HTTPS gateway. Audio and the current label list are sent only when voice input is used; API keys stay on the server. Operators can override or disable the gateway using
BARCODEMATE_HOME_API. Basic editing and printing work offline.
Source commit: ffea43db7e64e19685f4c5c154e699ca12799c9f. Validated package workflow: https://github.com/Mellon/BarcodeMate/actions/runs/35412597006
This release keeps the existing barcode workflows and their project format. Household labels use a separate JSON format that can also be used on the website.
Installers remain unsigned and macOS packages are not notarized. Real printers, label stock and hardware microphones still require hands-on verification. Start with a plain-paper alignment test and print at actual size.
BarcodeMate 0.2.0 - 24 languages
BarcodeMate 0.2.0 adds 24 application languages, matching the languages available on the website.
New in 0.2.0
- Full interface dictionaries with 408 messages per language: navigation, import, sequences, layout/printing, native app menus, accessibility labels and app validation messages.
- System-language selection on first launch, including Simplified/Traditional Chinese regional handling.
- A visible language selector at the bottom of the sidebar. Your choice survives application restarts.
- Right-to-left interface layouts for Arabic, Persian and Hebrew. Barcode data and physical print geometry remain unchanged.
- Translations are bundled in the app; no account, internet connection or runtime translation service is needed.
Languages: English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Indonesian, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, Polish, Dutch, Ukrainian, Malay, Bengali, Persian and Hebrew.
Native operating-system dialogs follow OS language settings. Technical details from third-party encoders may retain their original wording. Translation improvements are welcome.
