System Tuning Guidelines
This guide provides optimization steps for Windows Precision Touchpads (PTP), primarily based on official Microsoft documentation and practical testing.
This section contains settings extracted from native Precision Touchpad configurations.
To apply these settings, create a new text file, rename it to elan.reg, and import it into your Registry:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PrecisionTouchPad]
"AAPDisabled"=dword:00000000
"HorizontalOffset"=dword:0000012f
"RightClickZoneHeight"=dword:00000000
"RightClickZoneWidth"=dword:00000000
"SpaceBarOffset"=dword:000003e8
"RightClickZoneCorrected"=dword:00000001
"AAPNonCurtainTop"=dword:0000085c
"AAPNonCurtainBaseWidth"=dword:00000dd2
"HorizontalOffsetIsNeg"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PrecisionTouchPad\IgnoredExternalMice]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PrecisionTouchPad\LegacyControlled]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PrecisionTouchPad\LegacyDevices]
After importing, navigate to the following path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PrecisionTouchPad
Restart your computer to apply the changes.
If you find the physical right-click area too small, you can adjust it manually.
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PrecisionTouchPad
Adjust the following values:
- RightClickZoneHeight: Set to 64 (Hexadecimal value, which equals 100 in Decimal. This represents 100% of the touchpad height).
- RightClickZoneWidth: Set to 32 (Hexadecimal value, which equals 50 in Decimal. This represents 50% of the width, covering the right half of the touchpad).
Restart your computer to apply the changes.
The values in these registry settings are based on a 0–100 decimal scale, representing percentages:
- RightClickZoneHeight: a percentage of the height of the entire touchpad measured from the bottom edge.
- RightClickZoneWidth: a percentage of the width, measured from the right edge in right-handed,
and the left edge in left-handed configurations when the swap mouse buttons option is enabled.
You can customize these two values according to your personal preference.
