OpenVids 0.5.4
OpenVids 0.5.4 — the agent chat works again on Windows.
Fixed
- Windows: in 0.5.2 and 0.5.3 the agent chat did not start ("Agent runtime exited at startup (exit code: 1)"). The installer left out three files the agent engine reads when it starts. They are included again, so the chat works after the update. Thanks to @Bifapa for finding and fixing it (#31).
macOS builds were not affected; this release changes nothing else.
OpenVids 0.5.3
OpenVids 0.5.3 — full context windows for the agents.
New
- Settings › Agents › Context › "Full context windows", on by default. Every model now works with the largest context its provider offers: Claude Haiku 5.5 with 1M tokens instead of 100K, and Codex GPT-5.6 with 1M, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra with 922K, GPT-6 Sol and Luna with 872K, instead of 272K. Long chats are summarized much later, so the agents keep more of the conversation and the project in view.
- Some models charge more for very long requests: Claude Haiku 5.5 above 100K tokens, GPT-5.6 above 272K. With the switch on, such a request is billed at the provider's long-context rate. Turn the switch off to keep the previous behaviour: those models then stop at their standard-price limit and no request costs extra.
- The switch applies from the next turn, in open chats too. It is an OpenVids setting only: your OMP configuration is neither used for this nor changed.
OpenVids 0.5.2
OpenVids 0.5.2 — a more reliable agent chat.
This release updates the agent engine behind the chat (OMP SDK 18.4.3 → 18.8.3). Nothing changes in how you use it; these problems are fixed:
- A short network hiccup while a signed-in account refreshes its token no longer ends the running turn with "No API key"; the request is retried.
- Claude chats no longer get stuck on an HTTP 400 error after you stopped a reply or after a long chat was compacted; chats already stuck this way recover with the next message.
- Long Claude chats with many frames or screenshots (render checks, Vision reviews) no longer fail for being too large.
- A tool call whose arguments arrived cut off is no longer carried out from the incomplete text; the agent gets the error and sends it again.
- The agent process releases finished agent sessions properly, so long editing sessions with many turns use less memory.
- Errors that cannot succeed on a second try (for example a rejected request) are no longer retried.
- Newer models in the model menu for the providers you use, among them Claude Haiku 5.5 and Mistral Large 4, and corrected prices in the cost summary (OpenRouter with your own provider key is no longer shown as free).
OpenVids 0.5.1
OpenVids 0.5.1 — project tabs, # project mentions, design systems and voiceover.
The features of the 0.5.1 betas are now part of the stable version and are on for everyone. If you installed a beta, this release replaces it; you can turn "Get beta versions" off in Settings › General › Updates.
Project tabs
- Several projects open at once in one window, each in its own tab with its own editor server and agent. The tab strip sits under the title bar; Cmd+W closes a tab, Ctrl+Tab switches, the Projects tab is always first.
- Closing a tab that is rendering or running an agent turn asks first. Renders from all tabs share the render queue and run one at a time. Opening a project that is already open switches to its tab; a soft limit asks before the 7th tab.
- Every project tab has a Fork button next to its close button: the fork is made in the background with progress and Cancel on the Projects page, then opens in a new tab.
Attach other projects with #
- Type # in the chat composer to attach another project: pick the project, then the parts the agent may use (renders, music, other audio, images, video, story, or all).
- The agent sees what those parts contain and copies only the files it uses into assets/from//, with their license records. Projects or parts not attached in that chat stay out of reach.
Design systems
- A design system is a saved style — colours, fonts, type scale, transitions and motion rules — kept in your library and shown as a page you can preview.
- Create one from a brief, from the current project, from a video, from a website or from another project (Projects page › Design systems › Create, the design button in the editor toolbar, or ask in the chat). Fonts are downloaded with it, so renders never need the network.
- Attaching a system copies it into the project's design/ folder; it does not repaint existing compositions. When the library has a newer version, the project shows "Update design system" and changes only when you click it.
Voiceover
- Ask in the chat for a narration: the agent opens a voice setup card, you pick and tune a voice while listening to a sample of your own script, then the agent writes the lines, plays the first one in the chat, and generates the rest after "Continue". The lines land on the timeline in a Voiceover audio group, and the music is ducked under them.
- Providers, each with your own key (Settings › Voice, in the editor and on the Projects page): Google Gemini, OpenAI, OpenRouter, ElevenLabs, and your own OpenAI-compatible server (its address is set on the Projects page only). Keys stay on this computer in an owner-only file and are never shown again. OpenVids ships no shared key; the lines you generate are sent to the provider you chose.
- Every paid run asks first with the number of lines, length and estimated cost; identical requests come from a local cache and are never paid twice.
- Voiceover tab and clip inspector: edit a line's text, switch between takes without paying again, Regenerate, add lines to the timeline, carve the music under the voice, and add captions from the voiceover (the words of your script, timed by the recording).
- Story Mode: a chapter can carry a narration text; Build Story places each chapter's voice at its start, and narrated chapters get their captions from the voice.
- Gemini was tested with live accounts; the OpenAI, OpenRouter and ElevenLabs connectors follow their documentation and have not been run against live accounts yet. Please report problems with Help › Report a Problem.
Changes
- Opening a project always opens it in a tab; Show All Projects and the Projects button in the editor switch to the Projects tab and leave your projects open.
OpenVids 0.5.1-beta.2
OpenVids 0.5.1-beta.2 — voiceover with your own TTS key.
This is a beta. It is offered only with Settings › General › Updates › "Get beta versions" on, and installs over 0.5.0 and 0.5.1-beta.1. Everything in 0.5.1-beta.1 is included. Voiceover is experimental and may change.
Voiceover (experimental)
- Ask in the chat for a narration: the agent opens a voice setup card, you pick and tune a voice while listening to a sample of your own script, then the agent writes the lines in the model's own syntax, plays the first line in the chat, and generates the rest after "Continue". The lines land on the timeline in a Voiceover audio group, and the music is ducked under them.
- Providers, each with your own key (Settings › Voice, in the editor and on the Projects page): Google Gemini (direct), OpenAI, OpenRouter, ElevenLabs, and your own OpenAI-compatible server (its address is set on the Projects page only). Keys stay on this computer in an owner-only file and are never shown again. OpenVids ships no shared key.
- Generation is paid by you: every paid run asks first with the number of lines, length and estimated cost; identical requests are served from a local cache and never paid twice.
- Gemini: voice catalog with filters, voice design from a description, the vocal tags of Gemini 3.8 (, …), and scene generation (several lines in one request, split by the recognised words). The free tier allows 3 requests per minute for gemini-3.8-flash-tts; OpenVids waits out such limits. On the free tier Google may use what you send to improve its products; in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK its terms require paid services.
- Voiceover tab and clip inspector: edit a line's text, switch between takes without paying again, Regenerate, add lines to the timeline, carve the music under the voice, and add captions from the voiceover (the words of your script, timed by the recording).
- Story Mode: a chapter can carry a narration text; Build Story generates the voice for each chapter and places it at the chapter's start, and narrated chapters get their captions from the voice.
Tested live with Gemini; the OpenAI, OpenRouter and ElevenLabs connectors follow their documentation and have not been run against live accounts yet. Please report problems with Help › Report a Problem.
Turning "Get beta versions" off does not roll the app back: you stay on this beta until a newer stable version is out.
OpenVids 0.5.1-beta.1
OpenVids 0.5.1-beta.1 — first beta: project tabs, # project mentions and design systems.
This is a beta. It is offered only with Settings › General › Updates › "Get beta versions" on, and installs over 0.5.0. Everything in 0.5.0 is included. The three features below are experimental and may change or break.
Project tabs (experimental)
-
Several projects open at once in one window, each in its own tab, with its own Studio server and agent. The tab strip sits under the title bar; Cmd+W closes a tab, Ctrl+Tab switches.
-
Closing a tab that is rendering or running an agent turn asks first. Renders from all tabs share the render queue and run one at a time.
-
Opening a project that is already open switches to its tab. Each tab uses memory of its own; a soft limit asks before the 7th tab.
-
Type # in the chat composer to attach another project: pick the project, then the parts the agent may use (renders, music, other audio, images, video, story, or all).
-
The agent sees what those parts contain and copies only the files it uses into assets/from//, with their license records. Projects or parts not attached in that chat stay out of reach.
Design systems (experimental)
- A design system is a saved style — colours, fonts, type scale, transitions and motion rules — kept in your library and shown as a page you can preview.
- Create one from a brief, from the current project, from a video, from a website or from another project (Projects page › Design systems › Create, or the design button in the editor toolbar, or ask in the chat). Fonts are downloaded with it, so renders never need the network.
- Attaching a system copies it into the project's design/ folder; it does not repaint existing compositions. When the library has a newer version, the project shows "Update design system" and changes only when you click it.
Turning "Get beta versions" off does not roll the app back: you stay on this beta until a newer stable version is out.
OpenVids 0.5.0
OpenVids 0.5.0 — costs, forks, a render queue, a pinned plan and a beta channel.
Chat
- The plan of a running turn is pinned above the conversation: one line ("Step 3 of 7 · title") that expands into the full list, visible at any scroll position. A plan waiting for your approval stays pinned with Carry out / Change until a later turn replaces it.
Agent costs
- A coins button in the editor toolbar opens what the project's agents have cost: the total, and a breakdown by agent, model or chat, for today, 7 days, 30 days or all time. It updates live while a turn runs.
- Costs are kept in the project, so deleting a chat no longer makes them disappear. Models without a price show tokens only, and the total is then marked incomplete. Internal runs (the Render QA review, Jev) get their own row.
Fork
- Projects page › a project's menu › Fork: a copy with its timeline, story, assets, analysis and chats, labelled "Fork of X". Renders, caches and the undo history are not copied, and the fork's costs start at zero. Revert is not offered for chat turns made before the fork.
- Forking runs in the background with a progress bar and Cancel, then the fork opens. A copy that a crash interrupted is cleaned up at the next start. Fork and Duplicate are refused while an agent turn is working in the project.
Render queue
- Renders now run one at a time across the whole computer, yours and the agents' alike. A render that has to wait shows "Queued · 2nd" and which project is rendering. Cancelling it while it waits removes it from the queue. If a rendering app crashes or is killed, the next render starts.
Beta channel
- Settings › General › Updates › "Get beta versions": also offers beta releases, installed over this version. Turning it off never rolls back; you stay on the beta until a newer stable version is out.
- Beta builds carry three new features that stay off in this stable version: several projects open as tabs, attaching other projects to a chat with #, and design systems. They will appear when the first beta is published.
Fixes
- The chat log stays scrolled to the bottom when the composer or a panel above it changes height.
OpenVids 0.4.4
OpenVids 0.4.4 — many more places to find material, and a smoother preview.
Asset Search
- 13 new built-in trusted sources:
- NASA Scientific Visualization Studio: Earth and space videos and images, public domain;
- The Met, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Cleveland Museum of Art and SMK (National Gallery of Denmark): public-domain artworks;
- Wellcome Collection: medical and scientific images;
- ccMixter: Creative Commons music;
- Iconify: over 200,000 open-source icons and emoji;
- Pexels and Pixabay: free stock photos and videos;
- Flickr: openly licensed photos and videos;
- Freesound: sound effects;
- Smithsonian Open Access: CC0 images.
- Pexels, Pixabay, Flickr, Freesound and Smithsonian need your own free API key. Settings › Asset Search shows a "Get a key" link next to each one; paste the key there. Until a key is added, that source is not searched.
- Keys stay on your computer, are sent only to their own source and are never shown again after saving.
- The licenses of stock sites (Pexels, Pixabay) count as free to use. Permissive open-source licenses (MIT, Apache and others) count as needing a credit. Neither triggers a license warning on export any more.
Preview
- On a project with many short sound effects, playback in the preview no longer crawls and jumps back: the playhead follows the music or voice-over, not each effect as it starts.
Install
- macOS: download OpenVids_0.4.4_aarch64.dmg below, open it and drag OpenVids to Applications. OpenVids 0.3.1 and later offer this update themselves. The app is not notarized, so macOS blocks the first launch: open it once, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway" next to OpenVids. Or in Terminal: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/OpenVids.app
- Windows: download OpenVids_0.4.4_x64-setup.exe below and run it. It installs for your user only and downloads Microsoft Edge WebView2 if it is missing. The installer is not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen warns about an unknown publisher: click "More info", then "Run anyway". OpenVids 0.3.1 and later offer this update themselves.
Requirements: macOS 11 or later on Apple Silicon, or Windows 10/11 (64-bit).
Beta channel
Update manifest of the OpenVids beta channel (currently 0.5.1-beta.2). Managed by the Beta manifest workflow; do not edit or delete.
OpenVids 0.4.3
OpenVids 0.4.3 — projects with many sound effects open again.
Fixes
- A project with dozens of sound effects (for example one an agent filled with clicks, whooshes and hits) froze the app on macOS the moment it opened, and every new launch froze again. The preview no longer opens every audio clip at once: sound effects load a few at a time, just ahead of the playhead, the way video clips already did.
Install
- macOS: download OpenVids_0.4.3_aarch64.dmg below, open it and drag OpenVids to Applications.
- Windows: download OpenVids_0.4.3_x64-setup.exe below and run it.
