SK8V 1.1.8

Choose a tag to compare

@becaring becaring released this 11 Oct 12:02

SK8V 1.1.8 - Controller Fix

Changes

  • Controller not found: fixed "SK8V needs a controller (Xbox or PlayStation); none is connected" with a connected controller. It happened on PCs that had been running for more than about 25 days without a full restart (Windows Fast Startup keeps that count going across shutdowns).
  • On the same PCs, wheel tracks in snow (Snow setting on Auto) and the backup shooting mode on the board (used when GTA doesn't fire the shot itself) also didn't work; both are fixed.

Installation

Returning players on 1.1.6 or 1.1.7: download "SK8V-1.1.8-update.zip", close GTA V and copy SkateVLegacy.asi and SkateVRuntime.dll into your GTA V folder, replacing the old ones. You don't need to run Setup again.
Players on 1.1.5 or older: download "SK8V-1.1.8.zip" and run SK8V Setup.cmd (required since 1.1.6).
New players: download "SK8V-1.1.8.zip" and run SK8V Setup.cmd.

Requires GTA V Legacy Story Mode, your own Skate 3 game files and an Xbox or PlayStation controller. See the README for details.

@becaring becaring released this 11 Oct 11:23

SK8V 1.1.7 - Controller Detection

Changes

  • Controller detection: SK8V now reads your controller the same way GTA does. This may fix "SK8V needs a controller (Xbox or PlayStation); none is connected" on PCs where the controller works in GTA but SK8V did not find it. If you still get that message, please send your SkateVLegacy.log from %LOCALAPPDATA%\SkateV in a GitHub issue.

Installation

Returning players on 1.1.6: download "SK8V-1.1.7-update.zip", close GTA V and copy SkateVLegacy.asi and SkateVRuntime.dll into your GTA V folder, replacing the old ones. You don't need to run Setup again.
Players on 1.1.5 or older: download "SK8V-1.1.7.zip" and run SK8V Setup.cmd (required since 1.1.6).
New players: download "SK8V-1.1.7.zip" and run SK8V Setup.cmd.

Requires GTA V Legacy Story Mode, your own Skate 3 game files and an Xbox or PlayStation controller. See the README for details.

SK8V 1.1.6

@becaring becaring released this 11 Oct 10:20

SK8V 1.1.6 - Mod Compatibility

IMPORTANT

Run Setup again for this version. The weapon wheel fix for radio and HUD mods is made by Setup, so there is no update-only download this time. Download "SK8V-1.1.6.zip", close GTA V and run SK8V Setup.cmd with the same Skate 3 disc and GTA V folder as before. It installs over your existing SK8V and keeps your menu settings.

Changes

  • Better frame rate with mods: with some mods installed, SK8V's handling of GTA's controls cost over 2 ms every frame while skating. It now only touches the controls you are using. On a player's PC with eleven other mods, that cost fell from 2.4 ms to about 0.5 ms a frame, and skating now runs at nearly the same frame rate as walking.
  • Radio and HUD mods: if a mod in your OpenIV mods folder replaces GTA's HUD (a radio wheel add-on, for example), the board is now added to that mod's HUD instead of replacing it with GTA's original, so the mod's radio wheel no longer looks broken.
  • Fixed a ScriptHook V critical error ("Trying to unregister unknown IDXGISwapChain::Present() callback") when closing GTA before Story Mode finished loading.
  • Taking the board out no longer fails with "Skate could not load this area in time" when the game stalled for a while (for example a long freeze) while the board was being prepared.
  • Less stutter when another mod hits the same error every frame: SK8V's crash log now reports a repeating error once.

Installation

Returning players: download "SK8V-1.1.6.zip", close GTA V and run SK8V Setup.cmd again (required for this version).
New players: download "SK8V-1.1.6.zip" and run SK8V Setup.cmd.

Requires GTA V Legacy Story Mode, your own Skate 3 game files and an Xbox or PlayStation controller. See the README for details.

SK8V 1.1.5

@becaring becaring released this 11 Oct 08:01

SK8V 1.1.5 - Performance

Changes

  • Less work per frame while skating: nearby cars and pedestrians are gathered once per Skate step instead of every rendered frame, and their model and door lookups are remembered instead of repeated, so SK8V takes less time from GTA's own frame.
  • Lighter collision updates: when GTA streams in new collision near you, SK8V now updates only the part of its skate collision that changed, instead of rebuilding the whole area. Updates run about twice as fast and use less CPU in the background, and the result is identical to a full rebuild.
  • Collision streaming checks moved to their own low-priority thread, so they no longer compete with GTA for CPU time.

Installation

Returning players: download "SK8V-1.1.5-update.zip", close GTA V and copy SkateVLegacy.asi and SkateVRuntime.dll into your GTA V folder, replacing the old ones. You don't need to run Setup again if you are updating from SK8V 1.1.4.
New players: download "SK8V-1.1.5.zip" and run SK8V Setup.cmd.

Requires GTA V Legacy Story Mode, your own Skate 3 game files and an Xbox or PlayStation controller. See the README for details.

SK8V 1.1.4

@becaring becaring released this 11 Oct 04:32

SK8V 1.1.4 - Trick Analyzer, Snow and Tracks

IMPORTANT

Everyone has to run Setup again for this version. The Trick Analyzer is prepared from your Skate 3 disc, so there is no update-only download this time. Download "SK8V-1.1.4.zip", close GTA V and run SK8V Setup.cmd with the same Skate 3 disc and GTA V folder as before. It installs over your existing SK8V and keeps your menu settings.

Changes

  • Trick Analyzer: Skate 3's Trick Analyzer is back. After each trick, it shows that trick's stick gesture above the score multiplier, with your actual stick movement replayed over it. Diagrams flip for goofy, switch and fakie, as in Skate 3. Turn it off under Controller and HUD in the SK8V menu.
  • Wheel tracks: the board leaves wheel tracks in sand, mud, dirt, grass and snow.
  • No snow on the board: in snowy weather the board no longer turns white.
  • Radio controls toggle: the LB + D-pad radio controls can now be turned off in the SK8V menu (Controller and HUD).
  • Smoother wheel spin at high speed
  • Speculative fix for performance reduction under certain mod configurations (ResourceAdjuster, HeapAdjuster and PackfileLimitAdjuster)

Installation

Returning players: download "SK8V-1.1.4.zip", close GTA V and run SK8V Setup.cmd again (required for this version).
New players: download "SK8V-1.1.4.zip" and run SK8V Setup.cmd.

Requires GTA V Legacy Story Mode, your own Skate 3 game files and an Xbox or PlayStation controller. See the README for details.

SK8V 1.1.3

@becaring becaring released this 10 Oct 23:15

SK8V 1.1.3 - Better Crash Reports

Changes

  • Crash reports you can actually send: if the game crashes, SK8V's crash log now records where it happened, and the crash snapshot (.dmp) is a few MB instead of being too big to upload. If you hit a crash, please attach SkateVRuntime-crash.log and SkateVRuntime.log from %LOCALAPPDATA%\SkateV to your report.
  • Includes everything from 1.1.1 and 1.1.2: PlayStation controller support, the frozen-in-place and water teleport fixes, and the setup _ctypes fix.
  • Much faster setup, especially on hard drives (since 1.0.5): setup reads only the files it needs straight from GTA V's archives. A hard drive install that took 55 minutes on 1.0.3 now finishes in about 4 minutes.

Installation

Returning Players: Download "SK8V-1.1.3-update.zip", close GTA V and copy SkateVLegacy.asi and SkateVRuntime.dll into your GTA V folder, replacing the old ones. You don't need to run Setup again.
New players: Download "SK8V-1.1.3.zip" and run SK8V Setup.cmd.

Requires GTA V Legacy Story Mode, your own Skate 3 game files and an Xbox or PlayStation controller. See the README for details.

SK8V 1.1.2

Choose a tag to compare

@becaring becaring released this 10 Oct 22:46

SK8V 1.1.2 - Setup Fix

Changes

  • Fixed: setup stopping with "DLL load failed while importing _ctypes" (or "the downloaded Python does not start") on PCs that also have another Python installed, such as Anaconda. Setup's own Python no longer picks up files from the other install.
  • If setup's Python ever fails to load again, setup now shows the actual error, and names any file your antivirus removed.
  • Much faster setup, especially on hard drives (since 1.0.5): setup reads only the files it needs straight from GTA V's archives. A hard drive install that took 55 minutes on 1.0.3 now finishes in about 4 minutes.

Nothing changed in game since 1.1.1.

Installation

Returning Players: nothing to do if you're on 1.1.1. From an older version, download "SK8V-1.1.1-update.zip" from the 1.1.1 release, close GTA V and copy SkateVLegacy.asi and SkateVRuntime.dll into your GTA V folder.
New players, or if setup stopped with the _ctypes error: Download "SK8V-1.1.2.zip" and run SK8V Setup.cmd. Setup picks up where it stopped.

Requires GTA V Legacy Story Mode, your own Skate 3 game files and an Xbox or PlayStation controller. See the README for details.

@becaring becaring released this 10 Oct 22:31

SK8V 1.1.1 - PlayStation Controller Support and Bug Fixes

Changes

  • PlayStation controller support: DualShock 4 and DualSense now work for skating, wired or Bluetooth, without Steam Input or DS4Windows. Share (or the touchpad click) is Back and Options is Start, so the SK8V menu is Share + L1. Xbox controllers, Steam Input and DS4Windows work as before.
  • Fixed: frozen in place after equipping the board. With no Xbox-style controller connected (for example a PlayStation pad GTA reads natively), the skater could not move. Pick the board without a controller and SK8V now tells you it needs one instead of freezing. If another controller (or a virtual one) is connected but idle, SK8V now uses the one you are pressing buttons on.
  • Fixed: teleported back into the water. Walking out of deep water (for example the LA river) could snap you back to where you went in, over and over. You now come out onto the board where you are.
  • Fixed: setup stopping with "DLL load failed while importing _ctypes" on PCs with another Python installed (for example Anaconda).
  • If Skate ever stops responding, SK8V now hands control back to GTA instead of holding your character in place.
  • Much faster setup, especially on hard drives (since 1.0.5): setup reads only the files it needs straight from GTA V's archives. A hard drive install that took 55 minutes on 1.0.3 now finishes in about 4 minutes.

Installation

Returning Players: Download "SK8V-1.1.1-update.zip", close GTA V and copy SkateVLegacy.asi and SkateVRuntime.dll into your GTA V folder, replacing the old ones. You don't need to run Setup again.

New players, or if setup stopped with the _ctypes error: Download the latest release ZIP ("SK8V-1.1.1.zip") and run SK8V Setup.cmd. Setup picks up where it stopped.

Requires GTA V Legacy Story Mode, your own Skate 3 game files and an Xbox or PlayStation controller. See the README for details.

@becaring becaring released this 10 Oct 11:38

SK8V 1.1.0 - Emotes, Skate 3 Radio Controls and Skater Settings

Changes

  • New skater settings in the SK8V menu under Skating:
    • Posture: Normal, Stiff, Slouch or Buff.
    • Riding style: Skate 3's Loose, Gonzo and Aggressive riding styles.
    • Truck tightness and wheel hardness.
  • Emotes on the D-pad: press a D-pad direction while skating to play an emote. Pick the emote for each direction in the SK8V menu under Skating (Emote Up / Down / Left / Right, or None).
  • Skate 3 radio controls: change radio station with Hold LB + D-pad left/right, as in Skate 3.
  • The orange "BACKWARDS MAN" text no longer appears when the Backwards Man assist runs.
  • Much faster setup, especially on hard drives (since 1.0.5): setup reads only the files it needs straight from GTA V's archives. A hard drive install that took 55 minutes on 1.0.3 now finishes in about 4 minutes.

Installation

Returning Players: Download "SK8V-1.1.0-update.zip", close GTA V and copy SkateVLegacy.asi and SkateVRuntime.dll into your GTA V folder, replacing the old ones. You don't need to run Setup again.
New players: Download the latest release ZIP ("SK8V-1.1.0.zip") and run SK8V Setup.cmd.

Requires GTA V Legacy Story Mode and your own Skate 3 game files. See the README for details.

SK8V 1.0.9

Choose a tag to compare

@becaring becaring released this 10 Oct 02:42

Fixes setup stopping at Preparing the Hall of Meat HUD (prepare-hom-hud.py ... returned non-zero exit status 1).

  • GTA's radio station logos for the now-playing banner are now read in place like the rest of setup, instead of unpacking all of update.rpf (which could fail on a modded or damaged file).
  • If the logos still can't be read, setup carries on and the banner keeps Skate's own logos.

Already installed 1.0.8? Nothing changed in-game; you only need this if setup failed for you. Download SK8V-1.0.9.zip, extract it and run Setup again; it picks up where it stopped.
