@beckerd beckerd released this 07 Sep 15:27

Bug-fix release for everything reported on 1.4:

  • The star works: the kart cycles through its colours while it lasts, and a lightning strike flashes it as on the N64 (#15)
  • Results screen: every rank digit sits on its own portrait (the 5th place digit had drifted a slot to the right) (#14)

Install: unzip and drag the MK64Portable folder into PSP/GAME on your Memory Stick, then put your Mario Kart 64 (USA) ROM next to EBOOT.PBP. Upgrading from an earlier version: just replace EBOOT.PBP; the first start rebuilds the cached game data from your ROM (a few seconds) and your save is kept.

Bug-fix release for everything reported on 1.3:

  • Luigi Raceway and Wario Stadium: the stadium TV screens show a live picture of the race, as on the N64 (#11, #12)
  • Royal Raceway: the dash pads show their red and yellow chevrons scrolling in the direction of travel (#13). The same fix covers the other scrolled textures: the DK's Jungle Parkway river, the Koopa Troopa Beach waterfall and the Banshee Boardwalk water
  • Memory: 686 KB of unused memory is freed and spare RAM now stays with the system instead of an unused C heap, so the PSP-1000 has more headroom

Bug-fix release for everything reported on 1.2:

  • Moo Moo Farm: the road textures are correct (#1)
  • Pause menu dims the race instead of going black; menu fades in and out again (#2, #7)
  • The race HUD can be cycled with a Select tap: map, positions, speedometer (#3)
  • Lightning flashes the screen instead of blacking out the sky (#4)
  • Game-select screen shows the GAME SELECT banner and the OPTION / DATA buttons; L and R open them (#5)
  • Trophy textures are correct (#6)
  • Royal Raceway dash pads and the Bowser's Castle Thwomps use their proper mirrored textures (#8, #9)
  • Rainbow Road: no black box under the kart, yellow star guardrail, and the neon signs after Peach's draw correctly (#10)
  • Distance fog is drawn on courses that use it

Install: unzip and drag the MK64Portable folder into PSP/GAME on your Memory Stick, then put your Mario Kart 64 (USA) ROM next to EBOOT.PBP. Upgrading from 1.0 to 1.2: just replace EBOOT.PBP; the first start rebuilds the cached game data from your ROM (a few seconds) and your save is kept.

The race HUD and the menus are no longer stretched: they keep their original proportions, with the HUD anchored to the left and right screen edges and menus centred over the full-width backgrounds.

Install: unzip and drag the MK64Portable folder into PSP/GAME on your Memory Stick, then put your Mario Kart 64 (USA) ROM next to EBOOT.PBP. Upgrading from 1.0/1.1: just replace EBOOT.PBP; your data/ folder keeps working.

@beckerd beckerd released this 28 Aug 22:46

True widescreen: single-player racing is now rendered with a 16:9 field of view, so the PSP screen shows more of the track instead of a stretched 4:3 picture.

Install: unzip and drag the MK64Portable folder into PSP/GAME on your Memory Stick, then put your Mario Kart 64 (USA) ROM next to EBOOT.PBP. Existing data/ folders from 1.0 keep working; just replace EBOOT.PBP.

MK64 Portable 1.0 — Mario Kart 64 running natively on the PSP.

Download MK64Portable-1.0.zip, copy the MK64Portable folder to ms0:/PSP/GAME/, put your own Mario Kart 64 (USA) ROM (.z64, .n64 or .v64) in that folder next to EBOOT.PBP, and start it from the XMB. The first start builds the game data from your ROM (cached in MK64Portable/data/); later starts skip this.

  • Locked 30 fps on every PSP model, including the PSP-1000
  • All cups and courses: Grand Prix and Time Trial
  • Music, sound effects and the announcer
  • Steer with the analog nub or the D-pad; hold Select for 3 seconds to show the FPS counter
  • Only the USA (NTSC) version of the ROM is supported

The EBOOT contains no game data. Unofficial fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo.
