A numerical/lexical substitution sounds like a reasonable heuristic to add. But I'm concerned that it might be complex to get right in general—we certainly should not write our own number-to-English mapper.

The relevant term in linguistic processing is lemmatizer (handy to know when searching papers) - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemmatisation

A general solution is well beyond the scope of this project.

However, supporting common cases of word equivalence (on a case-by-case basis) could be implemented.
