Release list
SheepText 4.1
- Log files are now coloured exactly like SheepTerm's Auto mode: IP addresses cyan, masks purple, MACs pink, VLANs yellow, and up / down states in bold green and red.
- Everything else in a log stays plain — no more purple keywords, coloured timestamps or guessed interface names.
- Tip: for a device config, choose the Network config language from the status bar to get interface names and vendor-aware states (such as no shutdown).

SheepText 4.0
- Network configs are coloured exactly like SheepTerm, for every vendor: interfaces orange, VLANs yellow, addresses cyan, masks purple, MACs pink, and up / warning / down states in bold green, amber and red.
- Command words like interface, description and ip address are no longer painted purple, so the values stand out.
- Cisco checks still mark a wrong VLAN list or spanning-tree mode in red.
- Every popup (Save changes, Delete, Go to Line, file warnings…) now shows its icon, text and buttons centred, like SheepTerm.
- Go to Line puts the cursor in the number field straight away.
Unsigned build — first launch: right-click the app and choose Open, or allow it in

SheepText 3.9
SheepText now updates itself: it checks for a new version when it opens and once a day, and installs it with one click instead of sending you to a web page.
- In-app updates: automatic, or SheepText ▸ Check for Updates… to check right away. Release notes are behind Details…
- Signed updates: every update is verified against SheepText's own signing key before anything is unpacked; one that does not verify is never installed
- Unsaved work is safe: Install & Relaunch asks to save open documents first, just like Quit
- New highlighter: syntax highlighting now runs on SheepText's own pure-Swift engine instead of tree-sitter, network configs included, and stays fast on huge or minified files
This version has to be installed by hand once; from here on, SheepText updates itself.
Unsigned build — first launch: right-click the app and choose Open, or allow it in
System Settings › Privacy & Security. Download SheepText-3.9.zip, unzip, and drag SheepText.app

SheepText 3.8
- Code folding is now safe under every edit: replace-all, multi-cursor typing, line duplicate/delete, save-time trimming and undo no longer damage a folded block or leave a placeholder character in the file.
- Saving keeps the file you opened: symlinks and hard links are written through, Finder tags and other metadata survive, and a manual save that would overwrite a change made by another app now asks first.
- Auto save no longer races a manual save or quit, and ⌘Q waits for a pending auto save instead of dropping it.
- Recent files and session tabs on a cloud drive that has not mounted yet are no longer forgotten; Find in Files skips cloud-only placeholders instead of downloading them.
- Compare mode: blank-line accounting, block transfer on CRLF/CR files, stale-arrow clicks and very large diffs (200,000 lines with scattered edits) are all correct now, and typing in a compare pane is lighter.
- Network configs: real Cisco
vlancommands are no longer marked as errors, switchport … vlanlists are validated, plain-text notes that merely mention a vendor stay uncoloured, and large configs highlight faster. - Syntax colours no longer bleed between tabs, the character you just typed inside a word keeps its colour, and the Thai fallback font survives a theme change.
- Pinch-to-zoom is smooth on large files; Go to Line lands on the right line in CRLF files.
- The experimental plugin system has been removed.

SheepText 3.7
- Files in Open Recent open straight away — no more "you don't have permission to view it", and no more being asked to pick the file again.
- SheepText can now open any file you can read, wherever it lives on your Mac.
- Your settings, open tabs, recent files, drafts and plugins move over automatically the first time 3.7 starts. The old copy is left where it was.
- Opening, saving and Find in Files no longer rewrite a large permissions list every time.
Unsigned build — first launch: right-click the app and choose Open, or allow it in
System Settings › Privacy & Security. Download SheepText-3.7.zip, unzip, and drag SheepText.app
into Applications. Requires macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later, Apple Silicon.
SheepText 3.6
- A file in Open Recent that could no longer be opened now asks for permission back: pick it once and SheepText remembers it, instead of only showing "you don't have permission to view it".
- Files that have been deleted or moved away drop out of Open Recent on the next attempt, instead of sitting in the menu forever.
- Opening a file that really cannot be read still reports the reason, and nothing extra appears while your last session is being restored.
Unsigned build — first launch: right-click the app and choose Open, or allow it in
System Settings › Privacy & Security. Download SheepText-3.6.zip, unzip, and drag SheepText.app
into Applications. Requires macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later, Apple Silicon.
SheepText 3.5
- Pinch on the trackpad to zoom the editor text in and out. It works over the line numbers too, and the size is remembered like the one in Settings.
- Changing the text size keeps the line you were reading at the top of the window instead of jumping elsewhere in the file.
- The Settings font-size slider now updates the editor live while you drag.
- Thai text keeps its proper font after you change the text size.
- Fixed: a file created with Save As could not be opened again from Open Recent after restarting the app ("you don't have permission to view it").
Unsigned build — first launch: right-click the app and choose Open, or allow it in
System Settings › Privacy & Security. Download SheepText-3.5.zip, unzip, and drag SheepText.app
into Applications. Requires macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later, Apple Silicon.

SheepText 3.3
- Crisper editor text: font smoothing is now off by default, so letters draw with clean edges instead of a soft grey halo — most noticeable on the dark theme.
- The editor font now uses a Medium weight by default, which reads better with smoothing off.
- New in Settings → Editor → Font: a Weight picker (Regular, Medium, Semibold, Bold) and a Font smoothing switch, so you can go back to the previous look in one click.
- Line numbers and invisible characters follow the same smoothing setting, so they match the text.
Unsigned build — first launch: right-click the app and choose Open, or allow it in
System Settings › Privacy & Security. Download SheepText-3.3.zip, unzip, and drag SheepText.app
into Applications. Requires macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later, Apple Silicon.
SheepText 3.2
- Opening a file from Finder while SheepText is already running now brings its window to the front — including when the window was minimised to the Dock or the app was hidden with ⌘H. Before, the file opened in a window you couldn't see.
- Opening a file while SheepText was hidden no longer creates an extra copy of the window each time, and those extra windows no longer come back on the next launch.
- If the file needs a question first (it looks like a binary file, or it is very large), the dialog now appears with SheepText in front instead of behind other apps.
Unsigned build — first launch: right-click the app and choose Open, or allow it in
System Settings › Privacy & Security. Download SheepText-3.2.zip, unzip, and drag SheepText.app
