Whole Carriages — rooms and groups you build as one piece

The Train Editor's Whole section is first in the category row. It holds two kinds of template that are saved as a single build rather than the usual shell + contents split:

  • Room — one complete carriage, shell and interior together (exactly one carriage box).
  • Group — a whole run of carriages (this world's group size, three by default) as one build, so which carriage follows which is part of what you made.

Both kinds have plots in the editor world, a weight, a spawn gate and a Stage link like any other template, and both can join the train.

Since: v0.927.0 — PR #1477. Shipped defaults: neither spawns on the live train yet — the whole and wholegroup weights are 0. Only the editor side is live until those are raised.

Where they appear

  • Worldspace type menus — the Whole button leads the category bar; its type strip has a Room and a Group tab. Rows carry name, weight, gate cells and the Stage chip.
  • X menu — a Whole tab first after All on the Templates page; the Nav tab and the main-menu Train Editor picker both have a Whole Carriages tile (the pickers are now a vertical list with a wide preview).
  • Keyboard command menu — Whole is the first category row.

How rooms reach the train

A room is picked in two steps, mirroring shared carriages:

  1. The carriage roll for a slot lands on the whole entry in the carriage weights — that entry's weight is the whole-room frequency (shared works the same way). It ships at 0.
  2. The slot then draws a room from the pool by the rooms' own weights, gated by level, phase and Stage. The room is stamped verbatim (no parts or contents overlays), then its Z-menu variant pools and C-menu container prefabs are rolled on top. Nothing fits (empty pool, every room gated out, a room saved at other dims) → the slot places the whole.nbt shell as a normal carriage instead.

Dimensional-carriage (portal) slots always win.

How groups reach the train

A group is picked in two steps, the same two a room takes (since v0.1103.0, PR #1755):

  1. The train fills the group with one Group carriage (the layout weights decide how often), and the Group-carriage roll lands on the wholegroup template in the carriage editor's Groups row — that template's weight is the whole-group frequency. It ships at 0.
  2. The run then draws a group from the pool by the groups' own weights, gated by level, phase and Stage, among those whose footprint matches this train's group size. If none fits, the wholegroup template itself is placed as an ordinary Group carriage with contents.

A portal group always wins. The old Whole group every N setting, its menu rows and its commands are gone; a saved value is ignored.

Editing

  • Enter the plot, build, Save. Rooms and groups have their own sidecars for Z (block variants) and C (container contents), saved with the plot.
  • New ("+" on the Room or Group world-space menu, or on the X menu's Whole tab) makes a room or group in the editor: Blank starts from an empty plot, Current copies the one you're standing in — geometry, weights entry (gate, Stage, builder credit; not the label), Z pools and C links. You're walked into the new plot; later plots in the row shift along to make room. Command form: /dungeontrain editor whole new <name> [blank|<room>] and /dungeontrain editor whole group new <name> [blank|<group>] (PR #1510, v0.941.0).
  • Weights, gates, Stage links, labels and builder credits: the same cells and verbs as carriages, under /dungeontrain editor whole … and /dungeontrain editor whole group ….
  • Load under → Whole carriage room: in Find a Builder, a carriage or a contents build can be loaded straight into the room pool. A contents build is baked onto the bundled standard shell.
  • The Train Builder's Save still writes a whole carriage alongside the shell it always wrote, and a platform build saves a group — those now show up under Whole.

Operator commands

/dungeontrain whole status | room list | group list, /dungeontrain whole group force <n>|off (session-only exact cadence, for testing).
