Kagerou v0.7.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Sep 19:47

What's changed

  • First release that 0.7.0 can download and install from the sidebar
  • Added a "Skip to content" link, the first thing Tab reaches
  • Focus ring is drawn at full opacity and shows on the active sidebar item too
  • Disabled switches look disabled: an empty track with an outline
  • Group panels are announced by their name to screen readers
  • Buttons, badges and switches no longer animate their size
  • Removed the unused move_profile and reorder_profiles commands (nothing in the app called them)

Installing

Bundles sing-box as its proxy core — nothing to install separately.

These builds are not notarised. macOS may refuse to open the app; clear the quarantine flag it adds on download:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Kagerou.app

Windows SmartScreen will warn for the same reason — choose "More info", then "Run anyway".

The Windows portable.zip needs no installation: unpack it and run Kagerou.exe. It needs the WebView2 runtime, which Windows 10 and 11 normally already have.

See the roadmap for what works, what is half-built, and what is not there yet.

Changes since 0.3.0

The dashboard now says where your traffic comes out

Until this release the exit country was a flag emoji pulled out of the profile's name — a guess the subscription author made, when they bothered, and one most names do not carry at all.

Kagerou now asks a public service what address it sees, and asks it through the tunnel. The line shows the flag, the city and the country, with the exit address beside it. That address is the part worth having: it is the one thing on screen that proves traffic leaves where the profile claims it does. The country name follows the app's language; the city comes back English-only from the service.

The lookup runs when the exit actually changes — on connect, on switching profiles, on a reload that finds the tunnel already up — plus a refresh control on the line itself. It never runs while disconnected. Where there is no answer the old flag comes back rather than a blank line.

It is a setting, on by default, in the network section beside TUN and the system proxy. A VPN client that contacts a third party on every connection without offering a way to stop is not one this project wants to ship.

A rebuilt dashboard

The page was one card holding a large dial centred in an empty half-screen, and it looked the same at 860px wide as at 1600. It is now a denser layout: the dial shrinks and moves into a left column so the profile, the metrics and a speed sparkline share the space beside it, with two smaller cards and a reference line below.

New on the page:

  • A speed sparkline over the last minute of the session, scaled against a 1 Mbit/s floor with the peak labelled in the corner. Without the floor a connection moving sixty kilobytes drew the same mountain range as one saturating the link.
  • Session uptime and the live connection count. Both come from the backend, so a WebView reload during a live session does not reset them to zero.
  • TUN and system-proxy switches are back on the first page you open, since they are daily controls.
  • A quick pick of the active group's four fastest profiles, ranked by measured latency. When nothing in the group has been measured it offers the group test instead of an arbitrary four.

Custom routing rules can be added and removed

The backend has been able to store rules for a while; the page had no way to reach it. You can now write a rule and delete one.

Two details worth knowing:

  • The outbound starts unset, not at Direct. A stray click on Save would otherwise send traffic around the tunnel, which is the failure that looks like it worked.
  • The hint under the match field comes from the backend classifier, not a second copy of it in the frontend, so what the hint promises and what the generated config does cannot drift apart. It also warns about patterns that classify cleanly but match nothing — a wildcard, a pasted URL — which otherwise sit in the UI looking configured.

A rule written during a live session takes effect on the next connection, because the config is generated once at connect. The page now says so instead of leaving you to watch traffic ignore it.

Fixes

  • The macOS tray icon turned black-on-black after the first connect. Setting the icon dropped its template flag, so the system stopped tinting it for the menu bar.
  • The exit location never updated on its own. The lookup fired before sing-box had finished opening its inbound and the refusal fell through to the no-answer path. It now retries, but only for a proxy that never answered.
  • The empty sparkline drew a framed rectangle announcing it had nothing to show. Speed history now outlives the connection that drew it, and there is no chart at all before the first session.
  • The exit address sat below the baseline of the place name beside it.
  • The sources page piled its text up when the sidebar was open. Every breakpoint measured the window, so the sidebar took its 216px out of the cards without any of them noticing.

Accessibility

Twenty-five frontend defects are now recorded in the roadmap, each reproduced in a browser rather than read off the source, and four feature rows dropped from done to partial as a result. The light themes fail WCAG AA on every page. Radix's dismiss layer is dead app-wide, so Escape and outside clicks leave dialogs open. Fourteen store actions swallow their errors, which makes a failed connect look like a click that never landed. None of this is fixed in 0.4.0 — it is written down, which is the step that had been missing.
