Installation

Installation

Three ways to install: automated installer, pre-built binaries, or from source.

Automated installer (Linux & macOS)

Installs the latest verified binaries to ~/.local/bin and registers the Linux desktop application:

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/bisug/BinaryInspector/main/install.sh | bash

From a local clone:

./install.sh # Installs both CLI and GUI to ~/.local/bin
./install.sh --cli-only # Installs only the CLI
./install.sh --gui-only # Installs only the GUI
./install.sh --from-source # Builds from source using cargo

Pre-built binaries

Download binaries for Linux, macOS, and Windows from GitHub Releases. Every release build on main receives a SLSA build provenance attestation generated by CI.

Build from source

Requires Rust 1.98.1 or newer. See Building-from-Source for details.

git clone https://github.com/bisug/BinaryInspector.git
cd BinaryInspector
cargo build --release # CLI only
cargo build --release --bin binary-inspector-gui # GUI

Executables land in target/release/:

Executable Purpose
binary-inspector CLI
binary-inspector-gui Native desktop GUI (.exe on Windows)

GUI platform notes

  • Linux: ships with Wayland and X11 support; the file chooser uses the XDG desktop portal, so xdg-desktop-portal (and a backend such as xdg-desktop-portal-gtk) must be installed for the picker dialog.
  • macOS / Windows: no extra runtime dependencies.
