Releases: Bluewolf135/Inkling
Release list
Inkling 1.0.1
Clears both recommendations from Obsidian's plugin review of 1.0.0. Nothing changes in how Inkling looks or behaves.
-
No dynamic code. The bundled PDF library (pdf.js) no longer contains any
evalornew Function. The few PDFs that use PostScript functions, mostly in some gradients, now go through pdf.js's built-in interpreter: same output, slightly slower. -
Signed release files.

Inkling 1.0.0
The first release of Inkling: handwriting and annotation for PDFs and Markdown notes in Obsidian, built for a stylus and tested on an Android tablet with an S Pen.
What's in it
- Annotate PDFs with a pen, highlighter, eraser, shapes, lasso selection and sticky notes. Ink is saved into the PDF as standard annotations, so other PDF readers show it too.
- Highlights become notes. "Extract annotations to a note" turns highlights and comments into Markdown, grouped by page, each linking back to its page.
- Handwritten notes. Create a blank, lined or dot-grid notebook and write straight into it, adding pages as you go.
- Ink blocks in Markdown. "Insert ink annotation block" puts a drawing surface in the middle of a note. Its strokes are kept in an
.inkfile beside your attachments, so the note itself stays small and readable. - Saves that stay small. Most PDF saves append only what changed — a kilobyte or two, even on a textbook — so sync uploads the change rather than the book.
- Feels like ink. Pressure-sensitive, curve-smoothed strokes, palm rejection, and pinch zoom.
Installing
Inkling is not in the community plugin catalogue yet.
- With BRAT: install BRAT from Community Plugins, choose Add Beta Plugin, give it
Bluewolf135/Inkling, then enable Inkling. - By hand: download
main.js,manifest.jsonandstyles.cssbelow into<vault>/.obsidian/plugins/inkling/, then enable Inkling in Community Plugins.
Requires Obsidian 1.13 or later, on desktop or mobile.
Known limitations
- Renaming or moving an
.inkfile shows its blocks as missing, read-only, until the file is moved back. Renaming the note is fine. - PDFs with forms or digital signatures, and a few with unusual structure, open read-only on purpose, with a banner saying why.
- Ink blocks render only inside Obsidian.
