decomp-it-up-Zero v0.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@bmbelo87 bmbelo87 released this 11 Oct 22:39

Pump It Up: Zero reconstruction for Windows (64-bit and 32-bit), version 0.3.0.

Downloads:

  • decomp-it-up-Zero-win64.zip (64-bit): Pumpy.exe, SDL2.dll, z.dll (zlib), vcruntime140.dll.
  • decomp-it-up-Zero-win32.zip (32-bit): a single Pumpy.exe with everything linked in, no DLLs needed.

Video (libmpeg2) is linked into the executable in both.

How to use: extract the zip into your own Pump It Up Zero data folder (next to AUDIO/, BGA/, SCRIPT/, TITLE/, WAVE/ and STEP.DAT) and run Pumpy.exe. Game assets are not included.

New in 0.3.0:

  • Mission Station: picking MISSION on the station screen now opens the mission select.
    • The missions use their own step files, modes and forced modifiers, as in the original.
    • Before each song the mission information screen shows the goal; after it, COMPLETE or FAIL.
    • Clearing a song leads to Next Mission and the following song; clearing the third one plays Mission Cleared and goes to Enter Your Name, which saves to the mission ranking (SETTINGS/MRANK.DAT).
    • Mission items: mines (life loss, sound and white flash) and the speed items (2X, 3X, 4X, 8X).
  • Random Step: rewritten after the Exceed 1 source. It no longer piles every arrow on the same panels in Double.
  • Long notes: each row of a held long now counts when it reaches the step zone, not ahead of it. This fixes two rows of a long being counted at once.
  • Vanish: fade height adjusted, and long notes now fade too.
  • Song select: a command that ends with the center panel no longer also asks to confirm the song.
  • Enter Your Name: letters, sounds and background music now work.
  • Game Over: the Game Over sound now plays.
  • PUMPY.INI: created with the default values when missing, so the audio offset can be edited again.

Mission Station, not yet:

  • The CONTINUE screen after a FAIL (a failed mission goes to Game Over).
  • The mission history screen.
  • The random missions (CR / NR).
  • Unlocking by progress: all 30 missions are open from the start.
  • The prizes awarded after Mission Cleared.

Known issues: the Accelerate (AC) and Decelerate (DC) modifiers still have no effect, and there is a pause of about one second when entering the ARCADE song select.

Antivirus note: some engines flag new, unsigned executables with generic or machine-learning heuristics (for example Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.C!ml). Pumpy.exe is built with MSVC directly from the source in this repository, with no packer or obfuscation, and it has no network code. If Windows Defender blocks it, open Windows Security → Protection history and choose "Allow on device", or build it yourself (see README).

decomp-it-up-Zero v0.2.5

Choose a tag to compare

@bmbelo87 bmbelo87 released this 11 Oct 20:20

Pump It Up: Zero reconstruction for Windows (64-bit and 32-bit), version 0.2.5.

New in 0.2.5:

  • Easy Station: picking EASY on the station screen now opens its own song select instead of falling back to ARCADE.
    • 19 songs with levels 1 to 3, as in the original, played with the practice steps.
    • Up-left changes the speed (X1, X2, X3), up-right changes the skin, down-left / down-right change the song, center sets ready and then starts.
  • Scene masks: some screen layers are stencil masks that clip the next layer instead of being drawn. They were drawn as plain sprites, which left opaque squares around the side arrows of the Easy Station select.

Re-uploaded on 2026-10-11: the first zip of this version crashed on startup (a build problem, not a code change). If you downloaded it before this note appeared, download it again; the hashes below are for the fixed file.

Easy Station, not yet: the tutorial song, the intro video, and the station's own Next Stage, Game Over, Dance Grade and graduation screens. After a song the flow continues through the ARCADE screens.

If Windows Defender blocks it, open Windows Security → Protection history and choose "Allow on device", or build it yourself (see README).

decomp-it-up-Zero v0.2.4

Choose a tag to compare

@bmbelo87 bmbelo87 released this 11 Oct 16:57

Pump It Up: Zero reconstruction for Windows x64, version 0.2.4.

Contents: Pumpy.exe, SDL2.dll, z.dll (zlib), vcruntime140.dll. Video (libmpeg2) is linked into the executable.

How to use: extract the zip into your own Pump It Up Zero data folder (next to AUDIO/, BGA/, SCRIPT/, TITLE/, WAVE/ and STEP.DAT) and run Pumpy.exe. Game assets are not included.

New since 0.2.2:

  • Single save file (0.2.4): settings, bookkeeping, ranking and play counts now live in one file, PIUZERO.INI, instead of pumpprex3.ini and PIUEXCEED2.INI. On the first run the old files are imported automatically; they are not deleted, so you can remove them once you have checked your settings. This is the port's own format, not the original game's PIUZERO.INI: if a PIUZERO.INI that was not written by the port is found, it is kept as PIUZERO.INI.orig.
  • Operator menu footer (0.2.3): now the Zero one (PUMP IT UP: ZERO, (C) 1999-2006 ANDAMIRO CO., LTD.), with the project version on the build line.

See v0.2.2 for the larger set of changes this builds on (judgment timing, modifiers, Player 2 fixes, vsync).

Not tested in game yet: these changes were built and reviewed in code only. Please report anything that still misbehaves.

Known issues: the Accelerate (AC) and Decelerate (DC) modifiers still have no effect, and there is a pause of about one second when entering the song select.

Antivirus note: some engines flag new, unsigned executables with generic or machine-learning heuristics (for example Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.C!ml). decomp-it-up-Zero v0.2.2

Choose a tag to compare

@bmbelo87 bmbelo87 released this 11 Oct 16:47

Pump It Up: Zero reconstruction for Windows x64, version 0.2.2.

Versioning: from now on every commit is a version. The last number counts commits since v0.2.0, and the version is shown in pumpy.log, in the operator menu and in the file properties of Pumpy.exe.

New in 0.2.2:

  • Judgment timing as in the original: the windows now come from the game's own NORMALMODE.LUA tables, per judgment level (EASY/NORMAL/HARD), and are fixed in time at any BPM (PERFECT on NORMAL: 41.7 ms early, 83.3 ms late). Before, the Exceed rule was used and the window grew in slow blocks.
  • Long notes:
    • They no longer vanish in songs with speed changes.
    • Stepping another arrow while holding a long note is no longer lost as a MISS.
  • Modifiers: Mirror, Random Step, Vanish, Non-Step, Earthworm, Freedom and X-Mode now take effect in gameplay, on both sides (only speed and RV did before).
  • Player 2:
    • P2 playing alone now gets the difficulty they picked (it was always NORMAL), including Double and Nightmare.
    • P2 alone in Double/Nightmare: modifiers, block speed, Stage Break and Dance Grade now work.
    • A player who joins on the song select is no longer dropped on the next stage.
  • Screens:
    • Next Stage and Game Over play their whole video (they were cut short).
    • The Dance Grade crowd sound stops when the screen ends.
    • The operator menu is now silent.
    • The previous song's judgment no longer shows at the start of the next one.
  • Smoothness: high-resolution main loop timer, vsync that is actually checked (with a frame limiter at the monitor rate when the driver does not apply it) and arrows drawn with the clock of the last buffer swap.
  • Alt+Enter toggles fullscreen. On widescreen monitors fullscreen keeps 4:3 with black side bars unless ASPECT is set to STRETCH in GRAPHICS SETTINGS.
  • BUTTON CONFIG in the operator menu: bind keyboard keys and joystick/dance pad buttons for both players.

Not tested in game yet: these changes were built and reviewed in code only. Please report anything that still misbehaves.

Known issues: the Accelerate (AC) and Decelerate (DC) modifiers still have no effect, and there is a pause of about one second when entering the song select.

Antivirus note: some engines flag new, unsigned executables with generic or machine-learning heuristics (for example Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.C!ml). decomp-it-up-Zero v0.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@bmbelo87 bmbelo87 released this 02 Oct 01:34

Pump It Up: Zero reconstruction for Windows x64, version 0.2.0.

New in 0.2.0:

  • 2 players with different modes: P1 and P2 can pick different modes (for example P1 NORMAL, P2 CRAZY). Each player plays and scores their own steps. When only P2 has joined, the game now uses P2's difficulty.
  • Stop n' Go / freeze: handled from the .STX block flag. When it is set, the arrows stop for the block delay (DIGNITY FULL REMIX, for example). A normal block delay now becomes a gap in the scroll instead of a stop.
  • Stage Break: the life bar only causes a Stage Break from stage N on, as set in the service menu (default 2, so never on the first song). The 51 consecutive MISS rule still applies. The service menu offers OFF to 10 STAGE.
  • Service menu: the text now uses the 8x16 font embedded in the original executable.
  • Fixes:
    • P1 active-modifier icons now show on the song select.
    • A long note no longer disappears after a MISS.

Not yet: EASY/MISSION stations (they fall back to ARCADE), Zero-style Next Stage/Game Over/Continue/Reward, skin selection by select codes (use /skin N in the debug console), and most gameplay modifiers besides speed and RV.

Antivirus note: some engines flag new, unsigned executables with generic or machine-learning heuristics (for example Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.C!ml). Pumpy.exe is built with MSVC directly from the source in this repository, with no packer or obfuscation, and it has no network code.
