9.5.39 — Shutdown menu entry, VTX Sent display options, record-OSD probe

Follows 9.5.38 (the bolagnaise 9.5.19 merge). Everything in 9.5.38 is included; this adds three changes on top.

Pre-release — not yet flown. All three targets build clean, but these are UI changes that have had no hardware testing. Please report anything that renders wrong.

Shutdown is now its own menu entry

It used to be an unlabelled row near the bottom of the Power page, where nobody found it. It now sits in the main menu directly below Go Sleep — both end the session, so they belong together.

The page also explains itself, which it never did before:

  • Stops recording and releases the SD card so the goggles can be switched off without corrupting it
  • It does not power the goggles down — wait for the safe-to-power-off notice, then switch them off yourself
  • Releasing the card cleanly lets the next boot skip the SD card integrity check, so startup is quicker. Pulling the battery instead leaves the card dirty and the check runs

That last point is the reason to use it: the clean unmount clears the FAT dirty bit, which is what the boot-time check looks at.

Also fixes a latent bug: the Power page placed the row positionally (max - 2) in both the click handler and the row creation, so any future insertion into that enum could have silently pointed Shutdown at a neighbouring row.

VTX Sent banner — two independent options

Previously one setting conflated when the banner appears with what it looks like. They are separate wishes — you might want a subtle banner that only shows on a long press — so they are now separate settings:

Setting Options Controls
VTX Sent OSD On / Long press / Off When it appears
VTX Sent Style Normal / Subtle How it looks
  • Normal — R5 VTX SENT , bright green on a solid black pill, ~30 ticks
  • Subtle — VTX SENT, dimmer green, no background box, clears in about a third of the time
  • Long press — only a dial long press or an explicit Send VTX. With Auto Send VTX on, a plain click still sends but stays silent

Six combinations in total. The ELRS page shows a live preview styled exactly the way the real banner is drawn, plus a line saying when it will appear and what the style does — both update as you cycle either option. Note the preview sits on the menu background, so Subtle's missing box reads as menu grey there rather than your video.

There is no semi-transparent middle ground, by the way: the FPGA chroma-keys pure black through to video, so the background is either drawn solid or not at all — reducing opacity blends toward pure black and keys the whole box out.

OSD Probe (diagnostic)

A new assignable button action on the Inputs page, added to chase a reported bug where Record OSD: No still records the OSD.

The setting is plumbed correctly — the register write does happen — but the whole mechanism is a single FPGA bit (0x84), and that value may no longer gate the record path on current FPGA firmware. Display and recording share one composited output, so there is no software workaround; it has to be the right bit.

To help find it: bind OSD Probe to a button, then in live video with a flight controller connected — start recording, press once, record ~5s, press again, and so on. Each press steps to the next candidate value, beeps, and logs it (to hwlog.txt on Goggle One). Afterwards match clip timestamps against the log: the winner is the clip with no OSD in the file whose screen still showed it. Pressing back round to the first entry restores stock.

It is inert unless you bind it, so normal use is unaffected.
