Major Improvements

🗺️ Geometry-based Detection

  • Added GeometryParser.js to parse SVG paths, polygons, and polylines
  • Added GeometryCalculator.js for accurate point-to-geometry distance calculations
  • Streets and buildings now use proper geometric distance instead of point-based approximations

📍 Fixed Intersection Detection

  • Direct SVG element inspection for finding nearby roads
  • Correctly identifies intersections like "Yonge and Front"
  • North-south streets prioritized in intersection naming
  • Increased detection range to 10m for wide streets

🎯 Coordinate Alignment

  • Fixed pin positioning with proper tile offset alignment
  • Fixed zoom functionality to center on pin location
  • Improved pin dragging to follow mouse accurately

🚶 Better Path Filtering

  • Separated vehicle roads from pedestrian paths
  • Footpaths excluded from intersection announcements
  • Cleaner, more relevant location descriptions

🔧 Technical Fixes

  • Removed building address fallback for street names
  • Fixed map going black on zoom
  • Cleaned up debug output for better readability

ContextDescriptionApp v1.0.0

First public release of the accessible location description web application.

Usage

  1. Run python3 server.py
  2. Open http://localhost:8000
  3. Allow location/orientation permissions
  4. Use Update button for current location
  5. Use Speak button for audio description

Requirements

  • Modern browser with Geolocation API support
  • Python 3.x for local server
  • Map tiles (currently Toronto area only)

Known Limitations

  • Tile coverage limited to provided areas
  • Compass may not work on all devices (simulated compass available)
  • Coordinate system offset corrected in code
