Levels streaks and achievements
There is no global level. Each of the nine exercises has its own, 1 to 10, and everyone starts at 1 in all of them - because being good at panning says nothing about hearing 400 Hz.
Progress is mixed: points from correct answers unlock a promotion, and then a short test grants it. Five in a row at the current level. Points alone would reward grinding volume; a test alone would hand out levels on a lucky day. Together they say you have put the hours in, now show me.
The tile always reads either "20 / 100 to level 2" or "3 of 5 in a row", so there is always a next thing and it is always small.
A level changes the tolerance, not the labels. Higher levels narrow the accept band - and for the reverb exercise, add types. Nothing is unlocked by level except difficulty; there is no content behind a gate.
Ten for a correct answer, plus up to five more for precision on the continuous exercises. Landing dead on is worth more than scraping inside the band, which is the whole reason those exercises have a band at all.
Points are also the currency for Show the sound.
A streak counts consecutive days you practised. It is deliberately mild: nothing is lost for missing a day and there are no notifications. A streak someone is afraid to break turns practice into an obligation, and obligations get abandoned.
The daily challenge names one exercise and a small target.
Twenty-four, in four metals - bronze, silver, gold, platinum. Three are deliberately near-unreachable.
Their job is not to reward. It is to name skills you may not have known were separable: "Counts the echo" and "Knows the room" are two different abilities, and seeing them listed separately is how you learn that spotting a plate is not the same as spotting a long hall.
The locked ones are shown, each with a progress arc and a percentage, sorted earned-first then by how close you are. A wall of grey question marks would say nothing; the unearned list is a map of the subject.
There is no "reach level N" achievement, because levels are earned per exercise and an achievement for one would be an achievement for patience.
Accuracy achievements carry a minimum-rounds floor, so three lucky answers cannot earn the hardest-sounding badge.
- No percentiles or leaderboards. There is no server. A fabricated "better than 80% of players" is a lie, and a real one is a different product with accounts, storage and a privacy position.
- No currency you can buy, no lootboxes, no levels you can pick.
- No account. Everything is a file on your machine.
- macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/abcTrain/abcTrain.settings - Windows:
%APPDATA%\abcTrain\abcTrain.settings - Linux:
~/.config/abcTrain/abcTrain.settings
One file, shared by all four plugins, untouched by any installer. Back it up if you care about it; delete it to start over.
