Stellar Depths is a space exploration mod for Minecraft 1.21.1, built on the NeoForge loader. It adds custom dimensions representing space and the Moon, along with environmental survival mechanics including oxygen depletion, per-dimension gravity, and ambient radiation. The mod is developed by Sqersters and is currently in early access.

The mod is oriented around atmosphere and exploration rather than combat or progression. Its design philosophy emphasises scale, silence, and the unknown. As of version 0.2.2, the mod is creative-only — survival mechanics exist but no portal or rocket system has been implemented. Players reach the added dimensions through operator commands or the Space Navigation menu.

Key features

  • Space dimension — a void dimension where light barely reaches. Radiation is intense and oxygen depletes rapidly.
  • Moon dimension — rolling lunar terrain made of Moon Stone, pocked with craters, under low gravity (0.166× Earth). Rare caves generate beneath the surface.
  • Oxygen system — oxygen depletes in non-breathable dimensions and regenerates in the Overworld. A colour-coded bar appears above the hotbar. The LOX Bottle refills oxygen on use.
  • Gravity — each celestial body applies its own gravity multiplier. Fall damage is scaled accordingly, so low-gravity jumps are harmless.
  • Radiation — ambient radiation drifts on its own in space and on the Moon. A subtle screen effect (grain, scanlines, green edge hum) responds to radiation levels. No damage is applied in the current version.
  • Space Navigation — a menu opened with the M key (operator-only) for browsing the Solar System and travelling to accessible bodies.
