Project Overview: Local Art Archive

1. The idea

Local Art Archive is a website where people can share and discover local and traditional art, for example ebru (paper marbling), İznik tiles, kilims, miniature painting, calligraphy, woodwork and works by local artists in their own city.

Many of these works only live in small workshops, family homes or a neighbourhood. The goal is to give them a simple online home: a photo, a short story, where it comes from, and a place for people to talk about it.

2. Users

  1. Visitor (not logged in): can browse, search and view artworks.
  2. Registered user: can do everything a visitor can, and can also add, edit and delete their own artworks and write comments.
  3. Admin: can remove inappropriate content and manage the list of art forms.

3. A typical scenario

  1. Ayşe visits her grandmother in Kütahya and takes a photo of an old hand-painted tile.
  2. She signs up and uploads the photo.
  3. She picks the art form Çini (tile), writes a short description, sets the location to Kütahya and adds the tags tile, kütahya and blue.
  4. A week later Mehmet searches for "kütahya" and finds the tile on the map.
  5. He leaves a comment about a workshop that still makes similar tiles.
