Releases: brysonak/bufusb
Release list
v0.3.0
bufusb v0.3.0
What's Changed:
-
Counterfeit drive detection: before flashing, bufusb writes and reads back test blocks across the drive and refuses fake drives that report more space than they actually have
-
Error messages now show the actual reason a tool failed (e.g.
Failed to mount '/dev/sda1': Input/output error) instead of its last line of boilerplate, and the "Is ntfs3 or ntfs-3g available?" hint only appears when the NTFS driver is missing -
The progress bar now stops where it was when a flash fails, with the error printed underneath it
-
Running
bufusbwith no arguments prints the help text, and missing--source/--targetgives a normal usage error. Neither creates a log file anymore -
"Logging to: …" is printed once instead of twice when bufusb relaunches itself elevated
-
install.shand the README now use the bufusb name everywhere -
AUR: the package's test step reuses the release build instead of compiling everything a second time
v0.2.6
v0.2.5
v0.2.4
v0.2.4
What's Changed:
- dd mode now unmounts/locks the target first.
- dd mode could silently corrupt images
- NTFS fallback: now refuses to format if the kernel didn't pick up the new partition table
- Copy mode: a failed final flush is no longer ignored
- Linux ARM64: dd mode works now. It failed on every run before (wrong
O_DIRECTvalue) - Windows: paths with spaces work when elevating
- Windows: ISO paths with apostrophes (including curly ones) no longer break mounting
- Windows: more reliable ISO mounting on slow machines (or while Defender is scanning)
- Linux/macOS:
/dev/disk/by-id/...style targets now work properly - Copy mode: sticks that previously had an ISO written with dd no longer show up as iso9660 after flashing
--offsetvalues that aren't sector-aligned are rejected- A relative
--log-pathnow works after elevation on Windows
v0.2.3
bufusb v0.2.3
What's changed:
- We now truncate long labels once, for both FAT32 and the GPT name
- Pass the live ISO mount into ntfs::run instead of remounting
IMPORTANT NOTE
Binary name in the future will be 'bufusb' for 2 reasons (IT'S STILL buf, only for this release, future releases will have the name changed)
- For the GUI, I want to shell out to the CLI to make my life much much easier (In other words, I don't want to fully rewrite libbuf to fit a GUI's semantics)
- When shelling out, I realized it could possibly conflict with protobuf's
buf. And for people with that protobuf stuff installed, they could have problems too. Telling them to make an alias specifically for this is cringe
v0.2.2
buf v0.2.2
What's Changed
-
Added a
--labelflag to... You guessed it, specify a label for the drive when flashing (only copy mode) -
Fixed
--listflag not working on windows when not elevated -
Fixed BLKRRPART errors; The constant was wrong (was 0x125d, now 0x125f, reddit lied to me)
-
Fail on the first device error rather than the thousandth
-
No longer assumes sudo (now checks doas, run0, or pkexec)
-
Allow extended DASD IO on the windows target handle
v0.2.1
v0.2.0
buf v0.2.0
What's Changed:
- Added copy mode: writes a GPT + FAT32 ESP and copies the ISO tree. Fixes booting non-hybrid images
- auto mode detection, falls back to
dd, override with--modeflag - UEFI:NTFS fallback for files over FAT32's 4GB cap for individual files (Thanks, Pete)
