The aidot.talk service plays an audio clip through a camera's speaker
(push-to-talk / announce).
service: aidot.talk
target:
entity_id: camera.front_door
data:
media: "media-source://media_source/local/doorbell.mp3"
max_seconds: 30| Field | Required | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
media |
yes | - | A media-source id or http(s) URL pointing to an audio file. |
max_seconds |
no | 30 | Maximum talk duration (safety cap), 1-300. |
The service decodes audio server-side using ffmpeg, so it accepts any format ffmpeg can handle - MP3, WAV, OGG, AAC, FLAC, and others. The camera speaker receives the decoded PCM stream.
- The camera does not have to be streaming:
aidot.talkreuses the live session when one is open, and otherwise opens its own temporary session and closes it afterwards. On an idle camera allow for the cold-start delay described in Cameras; a battery camera has to wake first. -
max_secondsis a safety cap; the clip stops at whichever comes first, the end of the audio or the cap.
See Automation examples for a doorbell-announce pattern.
