SwitchWaker runs The Wind Waker (GameCube) natively on a Switch with custom firmware: the decompiled game, on Aurora. No emulation. You need your own disc of the game.
Version 1.0.0 adds updates from inside the game, aiming with the right stick and the gyroscope, new graphics options and a real 4:3 picture, and fixes three crashes since 0.5.0.
New
- Updates from inside the game (#27, #28): when a new release is out, a window says so at the title screen and shows its notes. Update now downloads the zip for your disc (about 10 MB), checks it and installs it; then restart the game (from the HOME-menu icon it restarts by itself). The options menu (Minus) > System does the same at any time, and turns the check at start off. It needs the console online. If a new version does not get past the logo on its first start, the next start puts the previous one back. Thanks to @depende3000.
- This is the first version with it: to get 1.0.0 itself, update by hand as below. From here on, the game offers the next ones.
- Aim with the right stick (#23): in the bow, the hookshot, the boomerang, the telescope, the Picto Box and the first-person view, the right stick aims too. Options in Controls: invert aiming up/down (on the GameCube, up aims down) and invert the camera's axes. In the telescope and the Picto Box the right stick's up/down still zooms. Thanks to @Lcastel1991 for the request.
- Gyro aiming (#25), off by default, in Controls: in the same views, turning and tilting the Pro Controller, the Joy-Cons or the console in handheld mode moves the view, with a sensitivity from x0.5 to x3. The sticks still aim. Thanks to @DiegoBrando4352 for the request.
- Graphics options (#30), in Graphics: FXAA, anisotropic filtering (x1 to x16), gamma, ambient occlusion (SSAO) and the upscaling filter (bilinear, area or FSR 1). Gamma starts at +0.20, a little darker than before: the game's colours were made for a GameCube TV and looked washed out on the Switch's screen. Original gives the old picture. Thanks to @depende3000.
- Real 4:3 (#31): the 4:3 picture now has black bars on a 16:9 screen instead of being stretched. The 16:10 option is gone. Thanks to @Ljodsi for the report.
Fixed
- Three crashes (#24): an island's event with a raft that has no path, a pot sliding or Link sidling along a wall over a floor that had just disappeared, and a controller vibration with an empty pattern. Thanks to @yacineolivier-maker.
- With "Invert camera vertically" on, the camera's own up/down commands (looking around, the telescope's and Picto Box's zoom) went the other way. Only the camera's turns and tilts are inverted now.
Install / update
Pick the download for your disc:
| Your disc | Download | Disc image |
|---|---|---|
USA (GZLE01, revision 0) |
SwitchWaker-v1.0.0-switch.zip |
sdmc:/switch/switchwaker/GZLE01.iso |
Europe (GZLP01, revision 0) |
SwitchWaker-v1.0.0-switch-eur.zip |
sdmc:/switch/switchwaker/GZLP01.iso |
- Updating from 0.5.0 or older: copy the zip's
switchfolder over the old one. Your disc, saves, settings and the HOME-screen icon stay as they are. Later versions can be installed from inside the game. - New install: copy the zip's
switchfolder to the root of the SD card and put your disc image (uncompressed.iso) at the path above. Details: INSTALL.md. - One region per SD card: both downloads install
sdmc:/switch/switchwaker/switchwaker.nro.
Known issues
- "Instant text" does not speed up the text of some cutscenes (for example the arrival on Outset Island).
- The disc's videos (the title screen's attract video and the ending video) do not play yet.
- Docked at 60 fps the frame rate can still drop to 30 in heavy scenes.

The built-in randomizer (#34) is planned for 1.1.0.
